James Patterson Can't Beat Detective Frank Jones

College Sophomore Autumn Boyd lies dead on the Charleston Battery. Her Uncle Boyd Tanner is out to solve this murder, on his own. Tanner is on leave from duty in Iraq. Unknown to Tanner, is Detective Frank Jones. Jones is a seven year veteran of Homicide. Fighting personal demons and a Chief who hates him, Jones investigates Autumn's murder without any leads. The only way he can save his job is to solve this case. Since he re-assigned he has to use the only lead he can find, Autumn's Uncle, Boyd Tanner.

Detective Frank Jones begins with an unsolved murder of another young college student. He is informed by DHS (Department of Hit Security) and other Fed agencies that he is off the case. They are handling the murder investigation. The next day, Jamal McBrown, a 22-year-old African American male is found hanging above the Confederate Museum in Charleston. Jones and his new partner Mary Parker hit pay dirt during their interview of their first suspect, Vito Corlean, Sicilian Energy entrepreneur and billionaire.

Detective Frank Jones is lost in Heaven; a gay club in London. After catching his wife in the garage fisting his partner, Detective Mary Parker, Detective Jones loses both his job and his wife. Yet his not-by-the-book investigation tactics helps convict the wife of Senator William Stone for the murder of 22-year-old college student, Autumn Boyd. Due to the political influence in Charleston, Frank is forced to take a job as an agent with the new Black Bureau Agency. This new agency is supposed to oversee ethical violations by local, state, and other federal agencies.
