I listened to this because I enjoyed the first in the series, and to be honest I am a little disappointed in the story line of this.
Don't g..Show More »et me wrong the setting and world building I think are great, and we're back on Earth with Razor who is trying to settle the last conflict before the world can start to re-build properly. I just found that the plot line was too similar to the first book. Alien shows up is in danger and young beautiful woman rescues him and then is claimed by him.
I think I'd have liked this a lot more if Kaylee was what the writer kept on telling us she was, she's supposed to be this warrior, fighter, and in the end even Razor calls her this, but she actually didn't do much but put herself in danger and be unconscious while all the big decisions were being made without her. This just paints her weak in my mind when I know that wasn't what was intended. (in fact Jessie in the first book was injured and all her sisters taken against their will) so maybe this is just the fantasy trend the author wanted.
David, is the total perfect narrator, and his tone with the Trivator Warriors is just amazing. He really does make this series stand out. Heck I'm not bothered I was a tad disappointed, I got to listen to David again :) haha
I did buy all of the series, because I enjoyed book 1. And I'm part way through the next one, which is showing a little more promise. Fingers crossed Jordan is a stronger woman than Kaylee has been.
Despite the above. I still enjoyed the listen, I think I just expected something different, if you can understand me.
This was a much better story and I kinda wish this one had come before the second book. Don't know why, but it felt more realistic and that Dagger and..Show More » Jordan's life should have been first. I guess I can see why the author did it this way, and although I did like some of the tie ins' I did also find them a little repetitive. I guess if I'd been waiting for each book's release this might not have been the case, but, back to back I found sections that I wanted to skip because I'd just listened to it.
The horrid realisation of what Dagger's actually been through and what Jordan has done to try and save him and to actually rescue him was heartbreaking.
I also really enjoyed the 'French guys' but wonder if this was a tie in to another story? I'm going to have to look around and see if SE Smith has anything with time travel in :)
I won't spoil the ending either but omg I was on the edge of my seat! Wonderfully done. Both by the narrator and writer :) Excellent wrap-up.
On to the last :( sigh. Hope there are some more series I can pick up.
I found that the beginning half of this was a really great addition to the world created around the Samson sisters and the Trivator warriors, but I wa..Show More »s a bit disappointed with how it worked out towards the ending, it was almost as if it started to become another totally different story and I personally would have preferred it to have a slightly different or more rounded ending.
I can however, only presume that this is because there are other stories in this world which the author has written or is in the process of developing. The fact that the Red Crystal ship is brought up and the future/past of earth by Dagger was neat, and it tied in a lot of things, but I'm just puzzled how it does all fit in... and I do really want to find out.
It seems that there's a lot more going to happen in the world of the Samsons, and I am going to dig around amazon to find out more.
David's voice in this series is a pleasure to listen to, his range of voices, and hidden context when needed is one of the best I've heard. I'm more than happy to follow him around the world of any audio book now. :)
Thank you so much for the entertaining series, and I hope there's many more for me to listen to from both author and narrator.
