The previous book, The Deeds of Paksenarrion, is one of my all time favourite books, so I was delighted to have more in the same series. The fantasy w..Show More »orld feels very real and the characters are solid and likeable. The narrator was well chosen, clear, pleasant to listen to and believable as the retired military main characters. Elizabeth Moon is known for capturing the feel of military life particularly well, including little details that give a strong sense of place and character. I'm just waiting for the next one in the series.
The narration of this title, compared to the rest of the Paksenarrion seriies, is terrible. No vocal differentiation, very hard to follow (these book..Show More »s have a ton of characters - and they all sound exactly the same!)
I am really disappointed, and cannot recommend this audio edition. The rest of the series rocks!
