This is a pretty graphic tale, fairly violent in places, but un-put-downable, with an immensely likeable central character, wrestling with personal de..Show More »mons, very human, with a good heart, just wanting to do his best, against all the odds!
Through many twists and turns, you wonder whether our hero will ever get his life back together again. No-one should have to suffer as he does, but through it all, he matures and gains a deeper knowledge of himself, of his past, and of human nature.
Initially, I found the present-tense style of narration somewhat irritating, but this was just because it is not the usual convention for storytelling (not sure why not, as it actually given an immediacy not found in the usual style), and after a while I became accustomed to it. The book was beautifully read, and gripping to listen to. Recommended.
Enjoyed the storyline with its twists and turns. However although I appreciate it's fiction found it a bit too far fetched on times. Having worked on ..Show More » murder investgations thought the reseach into reality could have been more thorough, although I suppose the inaccuracies were intentional for entertainment. All said it kept my attention to the end a good listen.
This is the first I had heard of this author and I am very impressed.
The story has well rounded characters and moves along at a gripping pace...Show More » I listened to it more quickly than I've listened to other books, mainly because I was so drawn in to the story.
It certainly isn't a 'relax before you go to sleep' story!
The narration is excellent.
Of you enjoy Peter James' books I'm sure you'll like this.
I would thoroughly recommend this book and I shall be downloading more by this author..
I have listened to three other Michael Robotham books; The Suspect, Shatter, and Lost. Bleed for Me has topped all of them.
I couldn't w..Show More »ait to get back to it when I had to pause or stop the track. The story twists and turns and is peppered with interesting characters that have a lot of depth. Michael Robotham has obviously honed his writing skills as there is detail where needed and the pacing is pretty spot on. I highly recommend this read to anyone, especially those who like detective thrillers and if you liked Shatter you will definitely like this.
I tend to devour audiobooks at the rate of two a month and rarely feel the need to recommend one to other listeners. However, The Wreckage is by far ..Show More »one of the best books I have heard in a long time. A combination of tension and suspense throughout kept me hooked over several days. I have read most of Michael Robotham's books and like his characters; Ruiz and Joe have their flaws but always have right on their side. The theme was extremely topical and the plot excellent. Books of this calibre need a good reader and Sean Barrett is one of the best around. His narration and natural ability to subtly change his accents are a pleasure for the ear. Several books have been ruined for me by readers with strong regional accents which grate and irritate. Thank you Mr Barrett for a consummate narration!
Very good indeed! The plot did well and truly thicken as the book progressed, and I found myself listening at every opportunity to find out 'whodunit'..Show More »! At the end of the book I found myself in tears, such was my empathy with the characters.
Sean Barrett reads superbly, as always. He is one of the few male readers who can 'do' women without making them sound either simpering or halfwitted. Much of this story is in the voice of an 18 year old female, and he does an impeccable job.
If you like detective stories, this comes very highly recommended indeed!
This is one of those books that I couldn't stop listening to as the narrative powers one with twists and turns, red herrings and surprises. There are..Show More »n't too many characters so the main ones are vivid and memorable. I didn't guess the final truth that is only revealed as the book races to the final denouement. The narrator is excellent and the writing is crisp and to the point without too many superfluous details nor digressions into the author's musical tastes voiced through one of the characters: a fault of some other crime/thriller writers!
