"A great listen"
A very empowering book with lots of easy to do, useful ideas for leading a happier, more fulfilling life. Well worth a listen.
"Touching and surprisingly funny"
I'm not usually a fan of autobiographies, but having beein a big Duran Duran fan in my teens (and particularly a John Taylor fan), I decided to give this a go and am really glad I did. It is sensitively written and touchingly honest. Lovely to have had John himself do the narration too! If you enjoyed Duran's music, definitely give this a go.
"Wonderful"
What an incredible and very memorable book. The story is both simple, fabulous and yet absolutely devastating. The characterisation is brilliant - Lou and Will are both superb - and the narration is excellent throughout. It is also a very thought-provoking book; if you were Will, would you feel the same way? After listening to this book I could not begin another book for a long time. I know it will stay with me for ages. This is an absolute essential - you will not regret downloading this one, I cannot recommend it highly enough.
"Funniest listen ever"
I absolutely LOVED this audiobook. Miranda is on top form as both narrator and protagonist; definitely a good move on her part to choose to narrate this book herself. I loved the way she included hilarious and also very meaningful insights from her 18 year old self, together with cringe-worthy moments that we can all identify with. Absolutely could not stop laughing at various points while listening to this. Suspect I will be returning to this one for a good chuckle on a regular basis. Wonderful stuff. Highly recommended.
"A great listen"
I really enjoyed this book - gripping and very moving. Uncomfortable at times but how can a book about the sex trade be anything else... The only thing that let it down for me was the somewhat monotonous narration, but it's only a minor niggle. This book is well worth listening.
"A more than tiny bit brilliant"
Absolutely hilarious - I haven't laughed so much in ages as I did when listening to this book. French's voice is superb for all the characters.
Surprisingly moving and searingly honest as well. Just fantastic - highly recommended.
"Good but not great"
I enjoyed it - I'm a big Jodi Picoult fan - however it was definitely not one of her best. The ending was particularly disappointing and there were odd inconsistencies with some of the characterisation. Having been through PND and very similar thought processes to Paige after the birth of my 1st child, I had been able to empathise with her in the beginning, but felt her character went a bit off course as the book progressed. If you're new to Picoult, try some of her other books first - My Sister's Keeper and Change of Heart are amazing.
"Hilarious"
Laugh out loud funny - every bit as good as the DVDs. Obviously cringeworthy in places, but absolutely brilliant. Steve Coogan is a genius.
Highly recommended.
"Staggeringly beautiful"
I absolutely loved this audiobook. The language and characters were so vivid and real, and the story was incredibly moving and heartfelt. It was also incredibly well read. Be warned though - you'll have a lump in your throat or may even end up in tears towards the end. Highly recommended.
"Truly incredible"
Words cannot describe the depth and range of emotions this book conveys. Jack is a very memorable character, and the journey of heartache, depression and survival endured by his Ma will live with me forever. I feel humbled and very grateful to have listened to this book.
"Unexpectedly disappointing :("
I read and hugely enjoyed The Poisonwood Bible a couple of years ago, and also really loved her non fiction book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, so was looking forward to The Lacuna. What a bore though! I wish I'd read the previous reviews... Her voice is so monotonous and not at all easy on the ear. I'm sure it would have been more enjoyable if it had been read by a professional actor.
Some parts of the story were interesting, but not enough to justify purchasing this audiobook, don't waste your money or audible credits on this one!
