Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

I had just watched the film and had to get this as my next credit. Amazing. The film stuck closely with the original. Wish it were longer as I finished it in a week on my journey to and from work so had to buy other books to top off my month. That's the only downside. Will def be listening to the other books in the trilogy now. Good work!
Don't let the fact this is aimed at young adults fool you, I'm in my. Thirties and it worked for me!

An epic story of survival at all odds and one of the most anticipated books of the year. In a ruined and hostile landscape, in a future few have been unlucky enough to survive, a community exists in a giant underground silo. Inside, men and women live an enclosed life full of rules and regulations, of secrets and lies. To live, you must follow the rules. But some don't. These are the dangerous ones; these are the people who dare to hope and dream, and who infect others with their optimism.

Readers who review on Amazon.com have given this great book 4475 reviews of which 3700 were 5 stars, that is phenomenal!!!!

This book had me gripped from within ten minutes, I could not turn it off and unfortunately it ended too soon, there is a part two (The Shift) but it is not on audible yet (come on audible!).

It's the concept of this book which I find so amazing and original, it's science fiction but has character examination in it. Based around a post apocalyptic world everyone lives in a silo governed by strict rules. I don't want to spoil it by revealing more, but I'm happy I came across this book via the 'recommended reads' alert.

The author has allowed others to 'piggy back' on his concept of the silo so there are other short stories available written from different perspectives which is a wonderful idea. He also writes reviews on these authors books. Kudos. I'm loving it. More authors to do this please.

The narration was good, can't fault this book, download it quickly,

I downloaded this as a 'filler' between credits, and I wasn't disappointed, except for the fact that I finished it within 3 days and have now had to down load another 'filler'! Very expensive this.

Any way back to the book, I have only good things to say about this, the movie was very well adapted, this book is written in a series of letters of Eva to her husband Franklin about their son. It's gently read. It really creates and builds the character of Kevin, and his mum. It make should want to slap the dad for being so gullible.

I really recommend this book, it's brief, but effective and there is a handy interview at the end with the author (love when they do that) which really explains why she wrote this book. It questions motherhood and maternal instincts.

Gotta love SK!!!!! I'm a huge fan, However I think I prefer his books when they stay away from the ghost story type theme. I would still recommend this though, its funny how much the little girl, who is only three, can express herself, perhaps she could have been a little older like they made her in the film - which stars Pierce Brosnan (avoid the film at all costs, they completely changed the story!)

I thought this would be an excellent, long series to get into.

Going by the amazon reviews this is a brilliant book for many and horrible for some. I'm one of the few who didn't like it. It's really weird how the main character (forgotten her name) gets transported back in time, abruptly leaving her husband and then barely speaks about him (even when she remarries!) or indeed about her leaving her whole life behind. There are few emotions in this book, no real insight into what has happened, no ponderings or sadness, she just rolls gently along with her new life. However,I didn't get that far into the book tbh. This was the second time in a row that I had to abandon a book. It's not something I do lightly.

The Scottish accents are good though and the narrator did a relatively good job.

Download this with caution I'd say.

Not a great ending to this trilogy I'm afraid, a shame as i loved the first book and liked the second. I was glad it ended as I am loathe to leave a book unfinished. This book is clearly aimed at teens but whilst the first two books 'crossed over' into the adult realm, this one proved who it was really meant for.

Katniss seems to be in perpetual terror/horror/grief throughout this book. the narrator, speaking as Katniss, is forever saying 'it was all I could do but to smack him/ hold myself back/kiss him'. I wonder when Katniss is ever going to accept the evil of the Capital and the president, considering she has survived two hunger games, you'd think she would have figured it out by now. How naive is she? The capital is evil and I feel she should just get over it and rebel already.

Then there is the problem with the narration, the narrator slows down the last few words of every paragraph to try to add...what? Suspense, emphasis? But it just sounds plain stupid and gets annoying. Her voice grates as Katniss and she sounds silly when narrating men. This is probably one of the worse narrations i have heard on audible.

On a positive note the story is nicely wrapped up (I think) I barely heard the last few parts having lost interest.

I was so excited to learn of this book because I enjoyed Swan Song so much, however it didn't live up to what I'd hoped it would. It's basically a who dunnit but it just goes on and on. In the end I didn't really care who did it! I am not sure how much time this book covers but it just seems an age.

The author uses beautiful language in his descriptions, almost poetic, but unfortunately this was not enough to redeem this book for me. I would definitely recommend Swan Song but not this one.

I have had a couple of duds lately from audible, think I need to choose more wisely next time!

I sometimes found this hard going (had to keep re-winding sections) but I am thoroughly committed to this trilogy and as such I enjoyed this book and would recommend it. This book is more of a bridge between books 1 and 3 and I am awaiting book three to tie up all of e loose ends in this book. I love Lisbeth, she is a firey individual and I want it all to work out for her !

High on the cliffs of the west coast of Ireland, overlooking the windswept Atlantic Ocean, is Stone House. Once falling into disrepair, it is now a beautiful hotel specialising in winter holidays. With a big, warm kitchen, log fires and understated, elegant bedrooms, it provides a welcome few can resist whatever their reasons for coming...

When I saw this flash up as available on the Audible website. I positively beamed. Had no idea part two of vampire trilogy was out. I downloaded it right away like an excited school kid. It's great when a book makes you feel this way, especially after having listened to a couple of duds prior to this one .

This book is great, unfortunately shorter than the first but it ties in nicely, jumping back and forth from time of infection to 97 years later. I zoomed through this and was sad when it ended, just couldn't slow myself down enough. Some regular characters return and are developed and it is well set up for part three. I hope it is written soon!!

Do not hesitate to down load this, trust me it's good!

So. How to begin? I would love to say this was a great book, I enjoyed the first one. But I felt this book was more of an historical book rather than a literary novel. Ken Follet really knows his stuff however so I cannot fault him on that and I learned a few things! On a negative side there were far too many silly coincidences. Everyone crosses everyone else's path across Europe, Britain, USA and Russia, what are the chances! I even began to roll my eyes and I guessed that the British brother in the French resistance would be the one to discover his other brother in the fighter plane over France. And it becomes a little condescending when ken reminds us of things more than once, like he doesn't trust us to remember, I didn't like that, it wasnt helpful. And I actually listened to a whole part of a book on time and a half speed, the narration was just a little too slow for me. If u have read the first book I suppose you have to listen to this one but otherwise I wouldn't really recommend (saying that tho, I will probably read the third one when it comes out!)
