By listening to these specially composed melodies with their rhythmic repetitions of Spanish and English a few times, you pick up over 200 essential words and phrases that will not just be on the tip of your tongue, but will be burned deeply into your long-term memory in next to no time.

Sally Phillips stars as Clare in the first series of the acclaimed BBC Radio 4 comedy. Like plenty before her, social worker Clare Barker has entered a caring profession so that she can sort out other people's problems rather than deal with her own. A control freak, she is entirely lacking in self-awareness, making her encounters with colleagues, family, and her partner, Brian, wonderfully entertaining and richly comic.

When 17-year-old Isabella Swan moves to Forks, Washington to live with her father she expects that her new life will be as dull as the town itself. In spite of her awkward manner and low expectations, she finds that her new classmates are drawn to this pale, dark-haired new girl in town. But not, it seems, the Cullen family. These five adopted brothers and sisters obviously prefer their own company and will make no exception for Bella.

    Story

I really wanted to listen to this story but found the style of reading really offputting. It felt as though the words were fired at me as fast as possible - I really had trouble processing them. I turned to a paper copy of this book - and found I really loved it. Would recommend the story but with a different narrator!

Jackson, Mississippi, 1962. Aibileen is a black maid raising her 17th white child. Minny, Aibileen's best friend, is the sassiest woman in Mississippi: a wonderful cook with a gossip's tongue. Graduate Skeeter returns from college with ambitions, but her mother will not be happy until she's married. Although world's apart, Skeeter, Aibileen and Minny's lives converge over a clandestine project that will change the town of Jackson forever.

    Story

I have downloaded quite a few books now and don't usually write a review. Ths book was different, quite outstanding. I loved the characters, the writing and for once I loved the narration, finding it added to the story.

    Sad to finish this one!
