I was a little disappointed with this book after watching the TV series and reading the reviews i thought i would give it a go,what i did not like was the past and present keep switching over i found myself a little confused as it gives you no warning that its switched,i also think it dragged on with too much boring detail it would have been alot better if it wasnt so dragged out,as its a pretty good story and the narrator has a great reading voice too.

Travel writer Lea Sutter finds herself on a small island off the coast of South Carolina, the wrong place at the wrong time. A merciless, unanticipated hurricane cuts a path of destruction and Lea barely escapes with her life. In the storm's aftermath, she discovers orphaned twin boys and impulsively decides to adopt them. The boys, Samuel and Daniel, seem amiable and immensely grateful; Lea's family back on Long Island - husband Mark and their two children, Ira and Elena - aren't quite so pleased.

The Isle of Lewis is the most desolate and harshly beautiful place in Scotland. When a bloody murder on the island bears the hallmarks of a similar slaying in Edinburgh, police detective Fin Macleod is dispatched north to investigate. Since Fin himself was raised on the island, the investigation represents not only a journey home but a voyage into his past. Each year twelve island men sail out to a remote and treacherous rock called An Sgeir on a perilous quest to slaughter nesting seabirds.

What a fantastic story,so well spoken with a great scottish accent, the detail of the isle of Lewis just takes you there, you warm to fin the main character the story is gripping and gets you thinking who did the crime its very twisty, the only thing i did not like was the culling of the guga if this does go on its pretty barbaric.

i am now on the second book Lewis man and did not know there was a third so that's in my wish list too.

    Highly recommended.

When the orgy was over, the slaughter began. The next morning, 13 of the revelers were found naked and butchered. Dismembered. Mutilated. But the 14th body was never found. The screams have faded and the blood has dried, but the house remains - watching. Now five very special people have dared to enter the infamous house of horrors. Who - or what - awaits them?

Kathleen McKenna's explosive third novel, The Wedding Gift, excels in so many categories it defies them all. It is a spine-electrifying supernatural tale where a huge Southern-states mansion contains one of the most terrifying, violent, and indeed psychopathic ghosts to haunt any town. It is also a murder mystery - why did Robina Willets apparently kill all five of her young children, and her husband, before stabbing herself to death? And, if you are in the camp of believing that "justice....just is not", then this will have you frothing at the mouth.

    Story

This book starts off really slow and the narrators deep south accent is a little putting off at first, but has the story unfolds it becomes creepy and scary and very sad,in fact a little disturbing too.

When the story becomes interesting you almost forget about the narrators voice.so if you do find this story slow at first please do not give up on it this is well worth a listen.
