Part Two of The Name of The Wind (Unabridged).'I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. Great continuation from part one. My only regret was I waited to long between them. It was not a sequel it was the same book and I needed to work very hard to remember what had happened.
    Story is great and clever.

While not one I will remember and rush back to read again it was a very gripping story and what nightmares are built on.
I have never really been a fan of the one man against the world with impossible odds but this was a goody in that style

Brian has arrived at university with a stronger desire than the acquisition of knowledge: he's going to be a star of TV's hottest quiz, University Challenge. But his progress on 'The Challenge' is somewhat stymied by his growing desire for the beguiling Alice Harbison, struggling to make her mark as an actress. And as obstacles impede their affair, Brian becomes more and more convinced that only overwhelming success on the quiz show will win her.

I loved One Day and so came to this with very high expectations. Yes I was a little disappointed but actually after I got over that it was a good fun story. Loved the underlying theme that holds the story together, the games show.

Story line is obvious and linear but actually all the better for that.

A pleasure to listen to and you do grow close to the small pool of key characters.

The UK is gripped by the threat of gang violence - the media is building on that hysteria, convincing us that knife crime is rife and the streets are flooded with guns and drugs. So when a member of a notorious girl gang is charged with a brutal murder, sympathy is in short supply. Enter Lilly Valentine, a tough talking lawyer who is never prepared to take things at face value and is determined to uncover the truth, whatever the cost.

    Story

I started of wondering why i downloaded this. not my normal style and had no real interest in gang culture. Something in the description made me want to try. So glad i did. It took a little while to get into the pace and style. Was not sure about the narrator. again personal and not a criticism.

BUT. then i just started to get it. I found I cared about the main characters and was drawn into a brilliant plot that is full of sadness and desperation with a health layer of wit and humour. The climax leave you wanting more. I will be looking for more books from Helen in the future.

The narration: i grew to really like it...

All Joe Spork wants is a quiet life. He repairs clockwork and lives above his shop in a wet, unknown bit of London. The bills don't always get paid and he's single and has no prospects of improving his lot, but at least he's not trying to compete with the reputation of Mathew "Tommy Gun" Spork, his infamous criminal dad. Edie Banister lives quietly and wishes she didn't. She's nearly ninety and remembers when she wasn't. She's a former superspy and now she's... well... old. When Joe fixes one particularly unusual device, his life is suddenly upended. It's a 1950s doomsday machine....

Oh why does Stuart not read more of his own books. He is beyond brilliant. The story is hideous and will turn your stomach then have you belly laughing. Oh please i can't hear this it is so horrible, then how has he made this so funny.

I can't actually capture how much I admire the writing. so well researched and so puerile at the same time. Fantastically hate-able characters.

If you like hard hitting cop drama there is no better.

Stuart PLEASE narrate more of your books. You really make a good story.... Brilliant

Deep in an Estonian forest, two women - one young, one old - are hiding. Zara is a prostitute and a murderer, on the run from brutal captors, men who know about inflicting punishment. Aliide offers refuge, but not safety: She has her own secrets, traitorous crimes of passion and revenge committed long ago, during the country's brutal Soviet years. Both women have suffered lives of abuse. But this time their survival depends on revealing the one thing history has taught them to keep safely hidden: the truth.

But if I was honest I was a little bored with this. For the 1st time I wish I had listened to an abridged version. The characters were interesting, though a little stereotypical, and the history and story were told well. Just it lacked pace, which may have been the intention, and failed to draw me in. I found that I did not really care about the characters.

    Sorry

Started listening and really thought it was just not my kind of book. I could tell it was skilfully written but not my bag.

I am so glad I stuck with it. it drew me in and I just wanted more. I WILL be getting the rest of the series.

Never have I been won round by a book like that. Brilliant narration might have been a part of that.

    Enjoy

Saw this and was excited. Looked forward to sharing with my kids. To be honest I listened and felt nothing. I really like Neil Gaiman's style and humour. I just did not find it in this book.

But I am hugely impressed that he went to all this effort for charity. Just this time it missed the mark for me.
