"well written, well read and fascinating"
I would never have had the time to read this as a book, and so was delighted to find it available as audio (unabridged). It was well narrated, revealed much detail of Dickens life and work, and the excerpts from Dickens own works were also presented well.
the only 'fault' I can find with it is that I did not like Dickens as a person very much after I had listened to the biography - but thats hardly a fault of the biographer!
Some academic biographers no longer 'like' this kind of cradle to grave biography - but I found it very well suited to this subject - whose adult life was so influenced by his childhood.
