When a baby escapes a murderer intent on killing the entire family, who would have thought it would find safety and security in the local graveyard? Brought up by the resident ghosts, ghouls and spectres, Bod has an eccentric childhood learning about life from the dead. But for Bod there is also the danger of the murderer still looking for him - after all, he is the last remaining member of the family.

I wasn't 100% sure that this book would appeal to me, but I'm glad I bought it. Excellent story and the reading by Neil Gaiman was also excellent and added to the story. One of the best books I read/listened to this year!

It is November 1890 and London is gripped by a merciless winter. Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are enjoying tea by the fire when an agitated gentleman arrives unannounced at 221b Baker Street. Inquisitor Glokta, a crippled and bitter relic of the last war, former fencing champion turned torturer, is trapped in a twisted and broken body - not that he allows it to distract him from his daily routine of torturing smugglers.Nobleman, dashing officer and would-be fencing champion Captain Jezal dan Luthar is living a life of ease by cheating his friends at cards. Vain and shallow, the biggest blot on his horizon is having to get out of bed in the morning to train with obsessive and boring old men.

I read a lot of fantasy fiction, but I had never come across Joe Abercrombie before. I gave the book a try bested on previous reviews. This book blew me away, it was fantastic. The characters are brilliant and the story is even better. The narrator is excellent and really brings the whole thing to life. Easily five stars.

At a gallery opening, his wife introduces him to Clas Greve. Not only is Greve the perfect candidate for a position with one of Roger's high-profile clients, he is also in possession of 'The Calydonian Boar Hunt' by Rubens, one of the most sought-after paintings in the world.

If you like Henning Mankell style of writing books you will like this book. The characters are likeable and the book moves at a good pace (not as quick as say Simon Kernick though). The narrator is very good and he definitely adds to the story.

Humans have been displaced at the top of the food chain, and now understand - to their outright horror - what it is to be not the consumer, but the consumed. Ephraim Goodweather, director of the New York office of the Centers for Disease control, is one of the few humans who understands what is really happening. Vampires have arrived in New York City, and their condition is contagious. If they cannot be contained, the entire world is at risk of infection.

If you liked the first book 'The Strain', then you'll love this one. It's an excellent follow up to the original. I'd recommend listening to the first one before listening to this one. It give the characters extra dept in this book.

Good follow on book from the Genghis Khan trilogy. I think it would be pretty hard to top the first three which are excellent. I wouldn't recommend this book without reading/listening to the first three in sequence though. The book is intended to stand alone in it's own right, but would I think confuse the reader/listener a little. The characters are more real having read the previous books.

Mr George Smiley is small, podgy, and at best, middle-aged. He is disillusioned, wrestles with idleness, and has been deserted by his beautiful wife. He is also compassionate, ruthless and a senior British intelligence officer in short-lived retirement from the Circus the British Secret Service organisation situated in London. But Moscow centre has infiltrated a mole into the Circus and it's more than likely that the perpetrator is Karla Smiley's old adversary and his opposite number in Moscow.

I read the reviews for this book and was expecting a lot. I found the plot mildly interesting (hence one star), but the character development was dire. If you can't 'connect' with any of characters then the book is in real trouble! It was a struggle to get to the end of the this book, and I was genuinely relieved to get to the end.

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own family. He employs journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history.

I usually take a chance on books that may not sound very good (to me) based on the star rating. This book is actually quite poor. It takes ages to get going. The third quarter of the book is actually quite good, but on a whole the book is not great. Too many boring sections which are complete irrelevant to the story.

A woman vanishes in the fog up on "the Hill", an area locally known for its tranquillity and peace. The police are not alarmed; people usually disappear for their own reasons. But when a young girl, an old man, and even a dog disappear, no one can deny that something untoward is happening in this quiet cathedral town.

Another reviewer already said it "Too many descriptives and not enough suspense". I'd have to agree. The worse thing is that the author spends a huge amount of time trying to get you to like the characters which are about as interesting dish water. You end up not really caring by the end of the book who did what or why! I bought the book based on previous rating, each to their own I suppose.
