Tiffany Aching, the young witch from The Wee Free Men, A Hat Full of Sky, and Wintersmith is back in a new adventure featuring Discworld characters both familiar to fans (such as Tiffany, the Wee Free Men, Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg) and new (meet Wee Mad Arthur, the Nac Mac Feegle on the City Watch whose only previous appearance was a brief cameo in Feet of Clay, and city witch Mrs Proust - a fabulous Pratchett creation).

A good book to end the series, darker in nature than the other three but Tiffany has grown up and it shows, shame to see it end as collectively they have all been good, but that I suppose is a matter of opinion.

And the narration by Stephen Briggs brilliant as usual, with the range of character voices he uses you would not think it is the same person.

Generations of werewolves have been secretly residing in a secluded valley a stone's throw from Grundy, Alaska. So when a snooping Outsider comes to Grundy to investigate rumours of lycanthropic shenanigans in the area, the valleys pack alpha, Maggie Graham, resolves to chase him away, even if doing so takes a quick bite on the butt. What a pity that researcher Nick Thatcher turns out to be so drool-worthy, and that his kisses make Maggie want to sit up and beg.

I know it only a first chapter, but if it's not going to grab me then I don't think the rest of the book will.
So I won't take a chance on spending money downloading it which in that case I can't give it an accurate score that would reflect it.

I found this book really funny, and what is better is it's the author doing the narration of which he excels in.
There are quite a few laugh out loud parts and definately loads of wide smiles places.
Set in toytown which gives it a surreal setting, a soft slouch hat humorous tec novel and a joy to listen to.

Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

People have been telling stories about warriors for as long as they have been telling stories... Our contributors make up an all-star lineup of award-winning and bestselling writers, representing a dozen different publishers and as many genres. We asked each of them for the same thing - a story about a warrior. Some chose to write in the genre they're best known for. Some decided to try something different. You will find warriors of every shape, size, and color here....

While there are some good stories in this book the narration is a dreadful monologue, the only stories I have listened to in full are when the female narrator was speaking, I have skipped more pages in the book than I have listened too I'm on part four half way through and have decided I can't listen to any more.
This has been a total waste of time and money for me, I won't buy another one if this narrator is doing them.

The anthology Songs of the Dying Earth has assembled one of the most distinguished casts of authors ever - including Dan Simmons, Neil Gaiman, George R. R. Martin, Paula Volsky, Mike Resnick, Robert Silverberg, Lucius Shepard, Tad Williams, Tanith Lee, Liz Williams, Glen Cook, and eleven other famous writers - to write stories in honor of the genius of Jack Vance, stories using the bizarre and darkly beautiful far future setting of the Dying Earth, near the very end of Earth's lifespan.

While I really enjoyed the stories which were written by some of my favorite Authors, it was largely spoilt by the poor narration and was more of monotone drone than anything else, unfortunatley I have another Jack Vance audio book waiting by the same narrator, it's been put to the back of the pile until I can steel myself to listed to him again.
While the stories rated 4 stars the narrator rated 1star in my opinion.

Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

Excellent book years since I read my hard copy, what foresight he had as a few situations have come to pass, for me he is the Grandfather of Cyberpunk I can't recommend this book highly enough, and the narrator is one of the best I have heard, a real pleasure to listen to.
