Who are you? What have we done to each other? What will we do? Just how well can you ever know the person you love? These are the questions that Nick Dunne must ask himself on the morning of his fifth wedding anniversary, when his wife Amy suddenly disappears. The police immediately suspect Nick. Amy's friends reveal that she was afraid of him, that she kept secrets from him. He swears it isn't true. A police examination of his computer shows strange searches. He says they aren't his. And then there are the persistent calls on his mobile phone.

A delight to find a book that is gender read to keep the context. The characters are dreadful and have no redeeming features. It will be interesting to see how the sister and parents are portrayed by Hollywood in the forthcoming film as they have strong and definite parts in the books along with Jeff and Freya(?), the criminals that Amy meets whilst on the run. It was not a scary book in the true sense of the world but this kept me on track for a couple of weeks listening and would certainly read (listen) to this again and watch the film when it comes out.

This broke the duck for me after a run of listening to books that I couldnt really get into for some unknown reason (as I have been as member since forever!) and keen to download my next book. Will search out another from this author.

Jennifer Egan brings her unique gifts as a novelist and short story writer to a compulsively readable narrative that centers on Bennie Salazar, an aging punk rocker and record executive, and the beautiful Sasha, the pasionate, troubled young woman he employs. Bennie and Sasha never discover each other's pasts, but the reader does, in intimate detail, along with the secret lives of a host of other people whose paths intersect with theirs in the course of nearly 50 years.

A surprisingly interesting book which kept my interest. It is a collection of short stories which link to the key characters so each can be read independently of the other. The last chapter was a little fast so I listened to it again. All in all, I would listen to this again although not a desert island choice.

Four years after Tom and Abby's 12-year-old daughter vanishes, she is found alive but strangely calm. When the teen refuses to testify against the man connected to her disappearance, Tom decides to investigate the traumatizing case on his own. Nothing can prepare him for what he is about to discover.

I was surprised by the ending, not in a pleasant way. There were so many twists and turns to this book that my interest stayed but almost as many impossibilities and unexplored relationships.

I did listen in one sitting though and it was an extremely thought provoking topic. In all, well worth the download, just a little unexpected in some places.
