From the earliest civilizations to the 21st century: a global journey through human history, published alongside a landmark BBC One television series. Our understanding of world history is changing, as new discoveries are made on all the continents and old prejudices are being challenged. In this truly global journey, Andrew Marr revisits some of the traditional epic stories, from classical Greece and Rome to the rise of Napoleon, but surrounds them with less familiar material, from Peru to the Ukraine, China to the Caribbean.

Beautifully written. And beautifully read. I highly recommend this book. Fabulous and not at all heavy going. Some really interesting takes on the events that made history. A wonderful listen. Thank you.

Meet Don. Don is a genetics professor who just might be somewhere on the autistic spectrum. He looks a little like Gregory Peck and is getting married. He just doesn't know who to yet. But he has designed a very detailed questionnaire to help him find the perfect woman. And it's definitely not Rosie. Absolutely, completely, definitely not .Rosie, meanwhile, isn't looking for love; she's looking for her biological father. Sometimes, though, you don't find love: love finds you...

What a lovely book. Beautifully drawn characters. A gentle, decent story about an not so impossible dream.

Winner of the Man Booker Prize for Fiction, 2009.
Tudor England. Henry VIII is on the throne, but has no heir. Cardinal Wolsey is charged with securing his divorce. Into this atmosphere of distrust comes Thomas Cromwell - a man as ruthlessly ambitious in his wider politics as he is for himself. His reforming agenda is carried out in the grip of a self-interested parliament and a king who fluctuates between romantic passions and murderous rages.

This is a book that's not for me. I'm sure it's brilliant and it was recommended but it is a little "heavy" for me. I love literature but perhaps this book is better served to the male audience.

These are the questions that Nick Dunne must ask himself on the morning of his fifth wedding anniversary, when his wife Amy suddenly disappears. The police immediately suspect Nick. Amy's friends reveal that she was afraid of him, that she kept secrets from him. He swears it isn't true. A police examination of his computer shows strange searches. He says they aren't his. And then there are the persistent calls on his mobile phone.

Well read and good plot. Many people love this book but, although I enjoyed it, I found it too long. I've read a lot of psychological thrillers and have read better - but I am being harsh as I have been spoilt. So I recommend this as a good book, and perhaps a very good book if you haven't much experience of this genre.

A fabulous, fantastic book. Beautifully read. Wholesome, disfunctional characters living a quirky life. Bitter sweet, tender, funny and sad. An absolute "must read". If you love literature you will love this. I envy everyone who hasn't read this book yet.

When Harold Fry nips out one morning to post a letter, leaving his wife hoovering upstairs, he has no idea that he is about to walk from one end of the country to the other. He has no hiking boots or map, let alone a compass, waterproof, or mobile phone. All he knows is that he must keep walking - to save someone else's life.

Thirty nine steps rose from the busy road of Tuborgvej into Mindelunden, with its quiet graves and abiding bitter memories. Lennart Brix, head of the Copenhagen homicide team, felt he'd been walking those most of his life. Beneath the entrance arch, sheltering from the icy rain, he couldn't help but recall that first visit almost fifty years before. A five-year-old boy, clutching the hand of his father, barely able to imagine what he was about see...

I really enjoyed the Killing but was a little disappointed with the sequel. I felt it was a bit bitty in parts and also that it was too long, however, the story kept me listening and I don't regret buying it. However, I won't buy the next one.

Yet again Michael Robotham weaves a plot of intrigue and power from the human heart. Jo is again in the central role and his character continues to develop with his sidekick Mr Parkinson. If you like a good psychological thriller this is one you will enjoy. Well written with a personal touch that draws you into Jo's world of work and family.

The unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Anna Funder's All That I Am, a powerful love story that tells the heroic and tragic true story of the German resistance. read by Judy Bennett and Saul Reichlin. If you have an interest in human courage and the lesser known facts about Nazi Germany before the outbreak of WWII, this is one for you. Anna Funder writes beautifully and her characters are explicit and complete. This book draws you into the lives of Ruth, Toller, Dora and Hans as they attempt to fight the Nazi regime and enlighten Europe to the very real threat that is about to devour the world. An excellent book that I highly recommend.

What happens when the girl next door becomes 'that girl off the telly.' There are some things in life you can always rely on. Living in the shadow of your 'perfect' brother Joey, getting the flu over Christmas, and your Mother showing you up in the supermarket. Then there are some things you really don't count on happening: a good dose of fame, getting completely trashed at an awards ceremony, and catching your fella doing something unmentionable on your wedding day.
