Here is the extraordinary true story of a British soldier who marched willingly into Buna-Monowitz, the concentration camp known as Auschwitz III. In the summer of 1944, Denis Avey was being held in a POW labour camp, E715, near Auschwitz III. He had heard of the brutality meted out to the prisoners there and he was determined to witness what he could. He hatched a plan to swap places with a Jewish inmate and smuggled himself into his sector of the camp.

I listened to this and to me it sounded implausible, I mean what are the chances of all of this happening? I did a Google search on Denis Avey and there are more than a few sites and articles questioning the authenticity of this story. In short, interesting, but I am sceptical.

In Steve Jobs: The Exclusive Biography, Walter Isaacson provides an extraordinary account of Jobs' professional and personal life. Drawn from three years of exclusive and unprecedented interviews Isaacson has conducted with Jobs as well as extensive interviews with Jobs' family members and key colleagues from Apple and its competitors, this is the definitive portrait of the greatest innovator of his generation.

    Story

I was moved by this audiobook, a really great biography of a very special man, what a character, unquestionably flawed, obsessive, passionate, non conformist, rude beyond belief, but politeness and conformity would not have taken him down the roads he travelled. Steve Jobs impact on technology will be discussed for decades, if not centuries, he had vision, he knew what the public wanted before they realised that they wanted it themselves. Great products, unquestionably, but do we all want Apple controlling our phones, music, television, digital media, our lives? I for one don't, smacks of Big Brother, or Big Brothers little brother at least.
Great narration, and very well written, he got the biography he deserved, bravo.

The classic vampire story by Bram Stoker revolves around a struggle between good and evil, tradition and modernity, and lust versus chastity. The author didn't invent vampires, but his novel has so captured the public's imagination that he is rightly considered their popularizer. Listen and you will meet not only the Count himself, but heroes Jonathan Harker and Abraham Van Helsing, plus an array of madmen, psychiatrists, and fair maidens who cross paths with the fanged menace.

    Story

We all know the story, Bram Stokers classic, this audiobook is advertised as (dramatized) in brackets. This appears to mean somebody has bought a dozen or so sound effects from Ebay, wolf howling, dog barking, door creaking etc which they use at the beginning of the audiobook, then they got bored or forgot to push the buttons. It's a great story, but for me the voice of Van Helsing was very annoying, I understood he was a Dutch doctor, but he sounds like the Swedish Chef from the Muppets on acid, and makes just about as much sense, but see what you think.

Set on the Western Front, in London and in Paris, My Dear I Wanted to Tell You is a moving and brilliant novel of love, class, and sex in wartime, and how war affects those left behind as well as those who fight.

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this, horrific, emotional and thought provoking, narrated brilliantly by Dan Stevens.
