"Rich stuff"
This is a fine book, as rich as it is long and complex - rewards any effort required to grasp its complexities and characters. At first I was baffled but it has since become one of my favourite reads.
"Apotheosis"
Cornac McCarthy writes books that will leave you changed. This is one of his best. Shorter, a novel 'in dramatic form'. The reading is rich with drama. The prose excellent, sinuous - philosophy mixed with theology to profound effect. The simple antithesis of the two characters - Black and White - as sharply drawn as one could imagine. They transcend their stereotypes, each the epitome, the apotheosis of all they represent.
"Unexpectedly profound thriller"
What a surprise. What appears to be a standard serial killer hard-bitten cop thriller becomes so much more in Ellory's skillful hands. Political conspiracy has never felt so profound.
"Unexpectedly profound thriller"
I'm glad the blurb didn't give too much away. This could have been a standard cop thriller - down-at-heel loner investigates serial killer. But it became something altogether more profound, illuminating and engaging. Marvelous.
