Its 25 years since John Rebus appeared on the scene, and 5 years since he retired. But 2012 sees his return in Standing in Another Man's Grave. Not only is Rebus as stubborn and anarchic as ever, but he finds himself in trouble with Rankin's latest creation, Malcolm Fox of Edinburgh's internal affairs unit. Added to which, Rebus may be about to derail the career of his ex-colleague Siobhan Clarke, while himself being permanently derailed by mob boss and old adversary Big Ger Cafferty. But all Rebus wants to do is discover the truth about a series of seemingly unconnected disappearances....

Rome. When Chief Inspector Blume arrives at the scene of a brutal killing, he finds enquiries well underway, the case itself apparently clear-cut, and a prime suspect identified. But when worrying shortcuts sanctioned by one of his superiors are uncovered, it seems events are being manipulated from on high. The complex truth Blume will unravel will shock even him, and his struggle for justice may yet cost more innocent lives....

Conor Fitzgerald is a great storyteller, with great descriptions of Rome and a twisty tale. Saul Reichlin reads this novel beautifully. Alec Blume is filling in the gap left by Zen. A five star read.

It's four in the morning, at the end of a cold December, and snow is smothering St Andrews. Student Alex Gilbey and his three best friends are staggering home from a party when they stumble upon the dying body of a young woman. Rosie Duff has been raped, stabbed and left for dead. And the only suspects are four young men stained with her blood. Twenty-five years later, Fife police mount a cold case review of the murder.

Alexander Fitzpatrick is one of the most wanted men in the Western world. A Howard Marks character, but far more dangerous, his wealth, accrued through drug-trafficking, runs into millions. For the past ten years there has been no sighting of him. Has he gone to ground using an alias, or is he dead? When an ex-police officer from the murder squad is found shot in a dank squat, Ann Travis is pulled onto the case. As the body count rises and the investigation becomes ever more complex, suspicion falls on Fitzpatrick.

I found it hard to get past the bickering, arguing, yelling and screeching to enjoy the plot. I am sorry to say that for the first time in 70 audible books I was unable to finish this one.

An enduring top-ten bestseller, and genuinely gripping novel in the spirit of Ruth Rendell and Elizabeth George.... London-based detective Tom Thorne has his work cut out. The killer chose his target at Euston station, followed her and strangled her to death. The victim wasn't his first in North London, and Thorne realises the murders are happening simultaneously. This is not a serial killer Thorne is up against... this is two of them.

A very good, twisting, crime thriller. D.I. Thorne's character is brought out well and guessing the ending is difficult. A five star read typical of Mark Billingham, well read by Christopher Kay.

Iceland 1934: Two boys playing see something they shouldn't have. The consequences will haunt them and their families for generations. Iceland 2009: the credit crunch bites. The currency has been devalued, savings annihilated, lives ruined. Grassroots revolution is in the air, as is the feeling that someone ought to pay.... And in a country where everyone knows everybody, it isn't hard to draw up a list of exactly who is responsible. And then, one by one, to cross them off.

4Dio is proud to present the greatest work of nonsense poetry in the English language as living, breathing, roaring drama! Pull up a seat in the tavern, sit there, safe by the fire, for it grows dark in the Tulgey woods. Ah, listen close, for here is the bard, come to regale us with his cautionary tale of that most gruesome monster: "Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!"
