Leading consultant psychiatrist Dr Steve Peters knows more than anyone how impulsive behaviour or nagging self-doubt can impact negatively on our professional and personal lives. In this, his first book, Steve shares his phenomenally successful mind-management programme that has been used to help elite athletes and senior managers alike to conquer their fears and operate with greater control, focus and confidence.

I was left with the impression that the author had taken an idea- ‘what if your brain was driven by a chimp’ and taken it one step too far. For me, there was far too many anecdotal explanations/gimmicky psycho-babble used and not enough evidence of actual clinical research. Animal studies can only go so far! Other studies cited too in my view only provided tenuous evidence to support the main premise of this book.

Koch shows how to maximize success in your career and life by using the proven principle that 80 percent of changes in the world result from the most powerful 20 percent of actions and ideas. He'll show how to use your own powerful "20 percent spike" - your most creative ideas and unique skills - to measure the amount of value you bring to your employer, clients, or customers. For most people, there is a huge disparity between their intrinsic value and the compensation they receive for their efforts.

Interesting but not the book I thought I was buying. Very much geared around entrepreneurial strategy and financial leverage. So if you have a business idea you want to take to the next level this is the book will give a strategic perspective. If however you are looking for more a personal development style book around applying the 80/20 (defining the vital few etc) you need to go to his consultancy company...

I would stress this isn?t a summary of the 50 best self-help books, more a review of the ideas behind them, about the authors, and the impact the books had. Felt the author must have been restricted due to copyright reasons and had been briefed to describe the books without out mentioning any of the practical wisdom within them!

Any ideas seemed to be described on a more philosophical level, which wasn?t particularly useful, & not explained clearly in the short slot allocated for each book. I didn?t recognize the books I had already read in full.

On a plus side I came away with ideas for further reading.

Rambles on for many hours about transporting wine, storing wine and where in Paris you should buy your crystal glasses, but very little advice is given about choosing wines and the different grapes.
Probally better suited to someone who already understands a lot about wine and is looking to learn more about the industry.
Quite academic in its writing style which I found to be off putting in parts.

Intuition is not some magical property that arises unbidden from the depths of our mind. It is a product of long hours and intelligent design, of meaningful work environments, and particular rules and principles. This audiobook shows us how we can hone our instinctive ability to know in an instant, helping us to bring out the best in our thinking and become better decision-makers in our homes, offices, and in everyday life.
