Young detective Anna Travis has been assigned to her first murder case, and it couldn't be a more horrific set of killings. They began eight years earlier; now the body count is up to six. After another body is found, Anna stumbles on a vital piece of evidence which links one man to the killings. However, he's a household name, a much-loved actor, and an arrest would create a media frenzy. And, if he was found to be the wrong man, his career would be finished, as well as Anna's.

A rather empty long winded story. Would not be out of place on Womens hour. Very dissapointing, failed to finish it, it was so predicatble it became tedious going.

I have really enjoyed this collection of audio books about the Pompey underworld. The narrater Tim Pepper breathes life in to the characters and great story lines, my hope is that audible backdates the collection.

Its just a shame that Audible have not got more of the Joe Fraraday series to download. If you like your modern dective thrillers to have a gritty realism, a supurb cast of colourful characters and a good story line to keep you hooked then look no futher a really enjoyable listen. If you like Rebus, Morse, Frost then you will be pleased with another addition to the modern detective. The narrator Tim Pepper is perfect for creating the ambience and has a wide range of voices that make the whole experience a treat.

DI Joe Faraday is called to the scene of a brutal death: the remains of a body have been chained to the railway line at Buriton tunnel, just north of Havant. Faraday has no name and no obvious leads to follow. DC Paul Winter is ordered to trawl through the missing persons list and comes across a missing man he suspects has fallen victim to foul play. Two men, one dead, one missing. Two detectives looking for them. Two stories entangled in the most bizarre and compelling ways.

Past midnight, a horribly mutilated body is found on a road in Portsmouth. The victim has been killed in a hit-and-run. On the evidence, DI Faraday's latest case seems cut and dried; the dead man had been responsible for the bullying and murder of a boy from his estate. Yeah, yeah, the usual. A crime. A corpse. A killer. Heard it. Except this stiff happens to be a Ponsonby, scion of a venerable Edinburgh medical clan, and the manner of his death speaks of unspeakable things. Why is the body displayed like a slice of beef? How come his hands are digitally challenged? And if it's not the corpse, what is that awful smell?

The author likes to shock you with gut wrenching descriptions and blue language at the start( maybe the first words were to do with a bet in his college years) but after he settles down and gets into his stride, he proves himself to be a very good story teller. Well paced, witty and good value for money would recommend it to anyone, except my grandma!
