"Did Not Enjoy"
I did not enjoy this book at all. I thought, when it started, it was going to be good but not the case. I found the whole book very disjointed, very confusing with all the names and could not follow it at all. I did persevere to the end and found the ending a disappointment also. I know others have enjoyed it immensely but certainly not one for me.
"Desolate and Depressing"
I found myself enjoying how well written and narrated the book was but hating the story. I had bought the book expecting a really good murder mystery with twists and turns along the way. What I got was a book where the murder was actually only a secondary storyline to the early life of Fin Macleod.
It was dark, dismal and desolate. Listening to the slaughter of the seabirds on the annual barbaric guga hunt was ghastly, something which does actually take place and was very descriptive. Certainly not something you want to be listening to whilst having lunch!
I won't be listening to any more by this author as this one was just not my kind of book.
"Enjoyable but not Riveting"
This is the first Kate Atkinson I have read and in the beginning I really enjoyed it and thought I would continue to do so. It is extremely well written, lovely prose, witty and very descriptive.
However, whilst it was a snapshot of lives and the problems surrounding the characters it seemed to lack a real storyline, no beginning, middle and end. Nothing seemed to really pull together. The end just seemed to fizzle out, certainly no twists or turns anywhere.
Having said that I did enjoy it but just did not find myself rushing to listen at every opportunity.
"So Easy to Listen To"
Love listening to Lesley Pearse, she tells such a good story and you just want to keep listening all the time, feeling sad when you reach the end.
This was really enjoyable, certainly kept me hooked in throughout.
I only wish there were more titles by Lesley on Audible - I would listen to them all.
"Pleasant reading"
Whilst I wouldn't say it was one of the most riveting books I have ever read it was easy enough to read and I quite enjoyed it. Narrator was a little strange but as I continued listening he seemed to be right for the part. I think he was trying to portray the more formal and clipped speech that would have been used in the period.
Based on a true story with the author's fictional additions it made the story more interesting.
"Found it to be a bit slow and repetitive"
I was probably expecting too much from this book after reading all the excellent reviews. I would say it was okay and easy to listen to, the narrator was excellent and the plot was certainly something different and quite intriguing.
It is written very much as a journal by Christine and I found it to be a little flat at times, having no other character development other than those she writes about.
This is just my view in that I prefer something a bit more riveting with more characters and a gripping story but other reviews are great so if you like a slow story then worth a listen to.
"Boring"
Tried but couldn't even make to the end of this book. I normally enjoy Tasmina Perry but this was not good reading. Maybe the narrator didn't help but not for me.
"Another Great Peter James Book"
Part of the Roy Grace series, very enjoyable, grabs you right and the start and carries on until the end.
Great author and great narration - 5 stars.
"Not one of her best"
I'm not sure if it was the narration that detracted from my enjoyment of this book or whether it was the content which seemed to jump around quite a bit.
I have read a lot of Tess Gerritsen booksbut this is the first one I have listened to and this one just didn't seem to have a riveting story. The narration was very flat and not the best so this didn't help.
That said, it's an okay listen.
"Okay"
I did listen to the whole of this and on the whole quite enjoyed it but I wouldn't rate it as highly as other books I have listened to.
"Enjoyable"
I read Shatter first and downloaded this one as I had enjoyed that one so much.
I have to say I did not enjoy this book as much as the other one. It was still good but nowhere near as good as Shatter.
I have two others of his to read.
