According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch - the world's only totally reliable guide to the future - the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just after tea...The armies of Good and Evil are amassing, the Four Bikers of the apocalypse are revving up, and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not particularly looking forward to the coming rapture.

Having read this about 10 years ago I fancied listening to it. I've heard Stephen Briggs narrate before doing other Pratchett stuff and he is as good here as in them.

The story is a good intro into both Gaiman's and Pratchett's work (especially as there is so much Pratchett it can be quite daunting). It's a good idea and plot and an enjoyable journey through it.

I had to paint the entire set of fences in our garden over a weekend and this made the hours fly by!

Shortlisted for the Audiobook Download of the Year, 2007.
Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

This has been given a very good treatment and is almost more of a dramatisation than an audiobook really with multiple readers each using different voices for different characters. Not sure if I'd want to listen to it without reading it first but having read it a number of times, the audiobook is great and much better than any of the tv mini series or films imaginings of it.

    H. E. Marshall's classic children's chronicle of Britain, Our Island Story, includes all the best-loved (and most infamous!) stories from history: King Alfred and the cakes, King John and the Magna Carta, Lord Nelson and the Battle of Trafalgar, Queen Elizabeth and the Spanish Armada, and many others. This recording contains the complete and unabridged text, released previously in separate volumes. It is read with aplomb by Anna Bentinck and Daniel Philpott.

I read this maybe when I was about 11 or 12 and when I saw it got it for nostalgic reasons. It does give a brief history of Britain and the narration is fine but it is for children. As an adult you'll find it to be too brief and also it's summary of someone being a "bad" man somewhat childish. If you want a more adult British history book then go for Dave Starkey's Crown and Country.

    Great for kids though :-)

In It's Only a Movie, the incomparable Mark Kermode took us into the weird world of a film critic's life lived in widescreen. Now, The Good, The Bad and the Multiplex takes us into the belly of the beast to ask: 'What's wrong with the modern movie business - and how can we make it right?'

As a regular listener of his radio show with Simon Mayo, as soon as I realised he was narrating his own book I knew it would be good. There are no surprises as to his rantings (3D, Sex and the City, etc) if you've heard him on the radio but they're still interesting to listen to.

Overall, very entertaining, am now going back to his first book (which I am a few hours into and so far I prefer his 2nd book)

Imagine you could travel back to the 14th century. What would you see? What would you smell? More to the point, where are you going to stay? And what are you going to eat? Ian Mortimer shows us that the past is not just something to be studied; it is also something to be lived. He sets out to explain what life was like in the most immediate way, through taking you to the Middle Ages. The result is the most astonishing social history book you are ever likely to read: evolutionary in its concept, informative and entertaining in its detail.

I found this quite an interesting book. I do wonder if I might have taken it in a bit more reading it rather than listening to it but it was still good and you'll find yourself coming out with various nuggets out of it either with friends or colleagues. Narration was fine.
