Danny Wallace had been staying in. Far too much. Having been dumped by his girlfriend, he really wasn't doing the young, free and single thing very well. Instead he was avoiding people. Texting them instead of calling them. Calling them instead of meeting them. That is until one fateful date when a mystery man on a late-night bus told him to 'say yes more'. These three simple words changed Danny's life forever. Yes Man is the story of what happened when Danny decided to say YES to everything.

I find it difficult to relate to the life changing reviews of this book. It's ok, a pleasant enough listen, but it didn't grab me and pull me in. It just bimbled along.
Say yes a bit more. Maybe if you're the kind of person who says no a lot, then this might come as a revelation, but for me it was just ok.

As a blizzard whips out of the north on Christmas Eve, several people converge on a remote family house. Stanley Oxenford, director of a pharmaceutical-research company, has everything riding on a drug he is developing to fight a lethal virus. Several others are interested in his success too: his children have their eyes on the money he will make; Toni Gallo, head of his security team is betting her career on keeping it safe; and a violent trio of thugs are on their way to steal it.

What a fantastic story with many twists and turns along the way. The characters are brought to life by the delightful narration of David Tennant, and I found myself willing them to succeed. I normally avoid abridged versions of audiobooks, but this one works well, without feeling as if I had missed anything important. I would highly recommend this book.

Sitting quietly in his room in an old people's home, Allan Karlsson is waiting for a party he doesn't want to begin: his one-hundredth birthday party. Escaping through his bedroom window, into the flowerbed, Allan makes his getaway. And so begins his picaresque and unlikely journey involving criminals, several deaths, a suitcase full of cash, and incompetent but very human police.

    Story

This story takes you on a journey that will stay with you forever. It is truly enchanting. The adventures of this incredible centenarian, and the friends he meets on his way, will carry you along with him.

Beautifully narrated, so easy to listen to, so difficult to switch off. I was intrigued by this man, yet slightly confused in the early chapters. It was only as the story gathered pace, that I began to fully appreciate the life that Alan had lead, and how that had brought him to this point on his 100th birthday.

    Brilliant book and highly recommended.

When James Cracknell and Ben Fogle decided to compete in the Atlantic Rowing Race, they thought they knew what awaited them: nearly 3,000 miles of empty ocean, stormy weather, and colossal physical stress. But their epic journey would become, at times, even more challenging, a living hell that tested every fibre of their being. Forty-seven days later, however, James and Ben were the first to cross the finishing line, becoming the first British pair ever to win the race.

How on earth this crossing ever came to happen is beyond me. It shouldn't have worked and yet together they pulled it off. Ben is a natural story teller, James less so, but they both speak honestly, openly and from the heart. I very much enjoyed listening to their individual yet joint account of an incredibly challenging event. I am very impressed with them both.

I couldn't switch this book off and listened to it in 2 days. A rich and gripping story, narrated beautifully. I was slightly put off at first hearing a man speaking the part of a teenage girl but his gentle tones soon carried me into the story and I found myself enthralled. A superb story with twists and turns to the very end. Loved it.

A true account of an "Ordinary Murder". Such an incredibly moving story which gives an insight into how a murder can affect a family. It highlights the different processes that each member of the family went through and how they made it through their darkest days. Utterly heartbreaking yet compelling.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. It was a light hearted easy listen that explores some tricky subjects such as depression and sexuality. Will talks openly about how these have shaped his life and continue to affect him. He clearly has the ability to laugh at himself and his own mistakes. His style of story telling is sincere and his narration is easy on the ears. The book came across as honest and it made me laugh. Funny Peculiar is a very apt title for this entertaining book.

'There's probably no God ... but I wish there was. I've got some things I need to ask him.' Based on Marcus Brigstocke's award-winning Edinburgh and West End show, God Collar focuses on the 'God-shaped hole' that opens up in Marcus's life following the death of his best friend.

If you have really strong views either pro or anti religion, you may find this book too much of a challenge. Marcus is not a religious man but he isn't an atheist either. He questions the values and the ideologies of both sides. Whilst I can't say I agree with everything he says (being an atheist myself), I very much enjoyed the challenge.

He brings humour and tribulation through observation as well as thought provoking anecdotes. A great listen.

An entertaining illumination of the stupid beliefs that make us feel wise. You believe you are a rational, logical being who sees the world as it really is, but journalist David McRaney is here to tell you that you're as deluded as the rest of us. But that's OK - delusions keep us sane. You Are Not So Smart is a celebration of self-delusion. It's like a psychology class, with all the boring parts taken out, and with no homework. Based on the popular blog of the same name, You Are Not So Smart collects more than 46 of the lies we tell ourselves everyday.

At least I think I did!

This book makes you question everything you think and even how you think. Presented in a very entertaining way, it uses research and evidence to back up and explain every point brilliantly. The narration was wickedly dry and humourous. It will challenge and some people might find that too difficult but if you allow yourself to look at your own behaviour with the knowledge from this book, you might just laugh at what you see. Fantastic listen, highly recommended.
