In response to the American administration's attempt to isolate Cuba, Fidel Castro delivered a series of speeches designed to radicalize Latin American society. As Latin America experiences more revolutions in Venezuela and Bolivia, and continues to upset America's plan for neoliberal imperialism, renowned radical writer and activist Tariq Ali provides a searing analysis of the relevance of Castro's message today. Includes an exclusive additional introduction by Tariq Ali.

This abridged audio edition of the Diaries, read by the author, conveys even more directly than the Diaries themselves the achievements, conflicts, and dramatic events in a unique political life.

At first I did not take to this book but gave it a second chance and enjoyed it. The insights found here e.g. his experience with the queen and political life in general you don't come across every day.

An autobiographical study, Down and Out in Paris and London follows Orwell as he tramps around both Paris and London. Pawning his belongings to buy food, unemployment, drinking heavily and jostling for a place in homeless hostels are but a few of the experiences related with candour and insight in this unabridged exclusive audiobook. Orwell was arguably one of the first 'gonzo' journalists.

I found the content and style fascinating although it is hard to determine how much of it applies to modern tramps. The character Bozo was pretty inspiring.

My friends had told me they loved this book but I could not get to the end of it and I feel the reading didn't help but the book itself is also not for me. It seemed the same voice was being used for anyone who was not the main character but I couldn't feel any sense of drama or emotion.

In My Life as a Quant, Emanuel Derman relives his exciting journey as one of the first high-energy particle physicists to migrate to Wall Street. Derman details his adventures in this fieldanalyzing the incompatible personas of traders and quants, and discussing the dissimilar nature of knowledge in physics and finance. Throughout this tale, he also reflects on the appropriate way to apply the refined methods of physics to the hurly-burly world of markets.

    Story

Not just any quant he was an important player. I later realised I had been reading his papers and have seen references to his work in mainstream books. I was also a physicist and now work in a bank so perhaps it is more relevant for me than most.

The book is very well written and well read. The content was interesting to me. E.g. Interesting how such a successful and bright individual was made redundant when in the wrong environment.

As president of the World Bank for a decade, James Wolfensohn tackled world poverty with a passion and energy that made him a uniquely important figure in a fundamental arena of change. Using a lifetime of experience in the banking sector, he carved a distinct path in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe for the institution that serves as the major lender to the world's poor.
"Very good depending on your interests"

    Story

I enjoyed this book agree that the author comes across as very objective. The early part of his life interests more on a human level and the later part on a political/economic level. The negotiations with Bush and Condoleezza Rice and the way the criticisms to the world bank were handled were among other parts of the book uniquely insightful.

I didn't always follow it well as it was not always in chronological order and perhaps deserved more careful listening than a listen whilst driving and doing chores.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

This is a very good book and the reading is one of the best I have heard so far using a variety of people to produce the voices and the readers express the characters well.
