My name is Peter Grant and until January I was just probationary constable in that mighty army for justice known to all right-thinking people as the Metropolitan Police Service (as the Filth to everybody else). My only concerns in life were how to avoid a transfer to the Case Progression Unit - we do paperwork so real coppers don't have to - and finding a way to climb into the panties of the outrageously perky WPC Leslie May.

What if you could go back in time and change the course of history?11.22.63, the date that Kennedy was shot - unless.... King takes his protagonist Jake Epping, a high school English teacher from Lisbon Falls, Maine, 2011, on a fascinating journey back to 1958 - from a world of mobile phones and iPods to a new world of Elvis and JFK, of Plymouth Fury cars and Lindy Hopping, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill who becomes the love of Jake's life.

Stephen King surpasses himself with this latest novel. The writing is crafted beautifully and grips the listner from the opening lines. I lived(and loved) every moment of the book so good was the narration by Craig Wasson. Fans of the JFK saga and 60's America will love it. The canvas and spirit of the age is evocative, and for those who lived through it ,nostalgic.
It's crying out to translate to the silver screen.

He is Dexter Mayhew, tall, dark, and (she can't deny it) handsome. She is Emma Morley, bottled red hair, wilfully badly dressed, all principles and no action. Could this be the dawn of the rest of their lives? Or are Dex and Em living proof that - despite an unlikely beginning - men and women really can be just good friends?

From the moment I started to listen to this book I was captivated. It was my first time listening to any book by R J Ellory. It is an emotionally draining but rewarding book and excellently narrated. It very much surprised me to later discover that the author is not American, as I had imagined, so brillantly does he write of Georgia in the US.I was so taken with the book that I emailed the author directly and to my surprise had a reply by return!!! Would recommend this book highly.

A Signature Performance: Leelee Sobieski's Emma is sultry but vulnerable, offering a sympathetic rendering of the heroine and her plight, allowing the listener to draw his own conclusions about Madame Bovary in this cautionary tale of love, passion, and desperation.

    Story

I was very disappointed with the narrator Leelee Sobieski. Her English pronunciation at times was curious. Her French pronunciation on the other hand was good. Her dramatic style at times was irritating and her attempt at characterisation was feeble. Overall her narration distracted from the story and in another narrators hands I would not have struggled to finish the book.

As with all of Tracy Chevalier books this is very well written. The reading by Cornelius Garrett really captures the mood of London at the time. An excellent book.

Excellent story line but let down by third rate dramatisation accents. The narrator was more than capable and dramatisation was unnecessary.
However I learned to live with the deficiencies and recommend the book wholeheartedly.
