Its 25 years since John Rebus appeared on the scene, and 5 years since he retired. But 2012 sees his return in Standing in Another Man's Grave. Not only is Rebus as stubborn and anarchic as ever, but he finds himself in trouble with Rankin's latest creation, Malcolm Fox of Edinburgh's internal affairs unit. Added to which, Rebus may be about to derail the career of his ex-colleague Siobhan Clarke, while himself being permanently derailed by mob boss and old adversary Big Ger Cafferty. But all Rebus wants to do is discover the truth about a series of seemingly unconnected disappearances....
"Good book spoiled by terrible narrator"

    Story

Found the narration irritating and distracting. While voicing characters ( ie acting) he was fine, but when reading the narrative, he read like an adolescent trying to impress the teacher, with 'dramatic' pauses in all the wrong places, especially when a a character name was the first word of a sentence. Did no-one listen to this before publishing? Really, Mr Rankin, you ought to respect your listeners as much as your readers and edit your audiobooks - I can't imagine you would have let this one actually be subjected to your public if you had heard it first....

Unlike some other titles of similar length, I was really aware of how long this one went on for. I was desperate for it to be over! Storyline too slow.

On the positive side, well narrated.

In Alberta, Canada, an eminent paleontologist disappears from a dinosaur dig site, and at the Cambridge Forensic Center, Kay Scarpetta receives a grisly communication that gives her a dreadful reason to suspect this may become her next case. Then, with shocking speed, events begin to unfold.

A body recovered from Boston Harbor reveals bizarre trace evidence hinting of a link to other unsolved cases that seem to have nothing in common. Who is behind all this? And whom can Scarpetta trust?

Much better than other recent works by same author. Getting back to the quality of storytelling in her early books.

Well narrated as usual by Lorelei King...

Clive Merrison and Andrew Sachs star in three brand new BBC Radio 4 full-cast adventures. How many times did Dr John Watson tantalise us with a passing reference to a mystery which his creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, never wrote about in full? In these full cast original adventures Bert Coules, the chief dramatist of BBC Radio 4's celebrated complete Sherlock Holmes canon, has imaginatively fleshed out three such unrecorded cases.

Good stories, well acted and narrated, however not worth £9 for 150 minutes. Admittedly I should have looked at the duration!

Born in 1957 in Deptford, south London, Danny's first job after dropping out of school at the age of 15 was in One Stop Records, a small record shop in London's West End, frequented by Elton John and Mick Jagger, a store rather like the one in High Fidelity.

The brand new thriller from the award-winning crimewriter. 'Death is a hollow drum whose beat has measured out my adult life.' So writes Jay Macallan Stewart in her latest volume of memoirs. But nobody has ever asked whether that has been by accident or design. Nobody, that is, until Jay turns her sights on newly-wed and freshly-widowed Magda Newsam. For Magda's mother Corinna is an Oxford don who knows enough of Jay's history to be very afraid indeed...For Adults Only: Explicit language.

A well paced, well structured book which was supported by a good narration.
A few unexpected twists and good characterisation made this one a real pleasure to listen to.

"A decent book ruined by poor narration"

    Story

The narration on this book totally ruined it for me. The intonation, stressing the wrong words, terrible characterisation totally distracted me from the book itself.
Was initially amazed to learn that the narrator was the author, then reasoned that if it were anyone else, the producer would have been honest about how awful it was.

Would have been 4 starts but for the frankly awful narration.

Ms Connor - stick to writing and fork out for a proper narrator next time please.

This dazzling memoir promises to be a courageously frank, honest and poignant read. It will detail some of Fry's most turbulent and least-well-known years, with writing that will excite you, make you laugh uproariously, move you, inform you, and, above all, surprise you.

Impeccably narrated by the author. Honest and funny. Fry's use of language is floral and beguiling. I'd recommend to anyone.
