"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times"; "It is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known"; so the novel begins and ends with some of Dicken's best-known words, and between the two is every Briton's view of the worst excesses of the French Revolution.

I loved this. I think it is my favourite Dickens novel. I got my friend who could never read beyond chapter 3 to listen to this. She enjoyed it so much that as soon as she finished she immediately began listening to it from the beginning. The narrator is excellent and his reading immerses you into the story that you are there. I will certainly listen to this again and I know my friend will, too. In fact she chided me for not telling her about listening to the audiobook before.

Summer, 1545. England is at war. Henry VIII's invasion of France has gone badly wrong, and a massive French fleet is preparing to sail across the Channel. As the English fleet gathers at Portsmouth, the country raises the largest militia army it has ever seen. The King has debased the currency to pay for the war, and England is in the grip of soaring inflation and economic crisis.Meanwhile Matthew Shardlake is given an intriguing legal case by an old servant of Queen Catherine Parr.

The minute I start listening to these stories by C.J. Sansom I am transported back in time and I am living it. The period comes alive, the sights, smells and above all the fear.
I love these books by C.J. Sansom and I thoroughly enjoy the reading by this narrator. I could listen to his reading over and over again. More please.

When it comes to the holidays, no story brings us back to the true spirit of giving like O. Henry's classic "The Gift of the Magi". So this year we've asked some of your favorite Audible narrators-Audie Award winners Katherine Kellgren, Oliver Wyman, and Jonathan Davis-to bring to life this timeless tale, plus two more of O. Henry's gems: "The Cop and the Anthem" and "The Last Leaf", in this holiday collection.

Thank you very much. I loved listening to this, expecially the first story, very funny. I enjoyed the narration because I could tell that they liked the stories themselves so wanted to share their enjoyment with others.
Thank you once again. More please.

Lynda Bellingham is much-loved as the warm and quick-witted panellist on Loose Women. In Lost and Found, Lynda tells the story of how she recovered from two destructive marriages, and many other challenging experiences. Yet her sense of humour has never left her, and along with the darker moments, she recalls hilarious anecdotes from stage and screen. This is the inspiring story of a survivor.

I started listening to this with high expectations because I have liked this actress in most of the things I have seen her in over the years, especially the Oxo adverts and All Creatures Great and Small.
Her early life was very interesting, then it became quite painful and boring listening to the sometimes cringe-worthy details of her sex life and disastrous marriages. I almost gave up, but when she embarked on finding her birth mother my interest picked up, as it was a good story. Her narration was good. I couldn't help feeling, at times, that she didn't realise this was real life (her real life) not a soap opera with her in the starring role.
When it returned to her very very painful marriage with her second husband. I couldn't help having periods of disbelief that she continued in this mentally abusive relationship for so long.
Credit must go to her family and friends for being so supportive. In the end I am glad her life has turned out so well, but I would only recommend listening with caution.

The only novel written by Emily Bronte, Wuthering Heights was originally published under the pseudonym Ellis Bell, and at first was thought to be the work of Emily's sister, Charlotte, the author of the classic, Jane Eyre. Wuthering Heights tells the tale of Heathcliff, a young orphaned gypsy boy, who is brought to the windswept moors of Yorkshire by Mr. Earnshaw, the master of Wuthering Heights.

I could never read this book, just could not get into it, so decided to download it after I saw that Michael Kitchen was the reader. I love his voice and that made me want to continue listening to the story and see how it would unfold. I couldn't wait to get back to it. I am glad that I have at last heard the unabridged story and can judge for myself whether it is a great love story or not.
