Brazil

I finished this over the weekend and must say it is up there with 'Around the World' and ' Himalaya's' - Now I cant wait to see the TV version as MP struts his stuff around this vast continent. He captures just about everything, with his wonderful humour and accents, its really very, very good and I have no hesitation in recommending it to you guys! It is amazing that this country is so diverse with such a massive culture difference, but everyone rubs along together and makes it work! He covers just about everything that you want to know, from politics to football, economics and gay marches. Now the problem is, what will he will do next?...USA I suspect, now that would be fun, poking fun at them...cant wait again.

Michael Palin is the king of narration. His warm and friendly style really draws the listener in and makes you wish you were there with him. The best thing is he is a Sheffield United fan, and of course Santos!

I have followed Michael Palin ever since he started with his TV travelogues and since joining Audible I have been enjoying them all over again. This latest adventure is as good as all the others and it makes me want to go to Brazil and experience all of the wonderful sights and sounds that great country has. Listen to it yourself I am sure you won't regret it.

Hand's up who now wants to go to Brazil... Well form an orderly queue behind me.



This is the first time i've listened to a travel book. I always thought that listening to some bloke bang on about how lucky he was to have the opportunity to visit somewhere better than my suburban reality would really tick me off, but Michael Palin just isn't some bloke and Brazil not just some place far away. I was gripped from the two minutes in and stayed gripped throughout.



My wife and I started listening to this book on a ridiculously long car journey and found ourselves delaying getting out of the car when we stopped. Palin comes across as a genuinely nice bloke as you would expect. The real star of this book however, is Brazil.



Not just a wonderfully diverse and important place, Brazil you will discover is an approach to life that seems so refreshing and as my wife said, Palin's delivery unfolds more as the story of Brazil than a trip guide.



This book left us in no doubt that the emergence of Brazil as an important global force could actually be just what we all need.

Another fantastic audiobook by Michael Palin. I love to watch his travel shows. I have the other audiobooks as well as the DVD box set of his travel programs and find that this audiobook, like the others, is a perfect accompaniment to the series.

He reads the book himself, which is a definitely plus. It just wouldn't be the same with a different narrator. Only one complaint - I wish Michael Palin made more of these!

Yet again, Palin has a way, his very own way of taking you through the journey with him, entertaining you every step of the way. A must have for anyone interested in travel.

I enjoyed the TV series, but of course it was 'how much can we pack into a programme'? The book covers everything seen on the TV and goes into each area in much more detail, as well as letting you in the little 'secrets' that you don't see on the telly unless someone does an out-take show - for example the number of times Michael had to record the first part of an interview with a tribesman, where he started something like, 'Living in this isolated place ...' because each time he said it, a plane went past. Highly entertaining, and of course read by Michael Palin himself, which is a big bonus.

The first three journeys were great, both on the screen and in print. When the style changed from 'Journey with Purpose' (80 days, Pole to Pole etc) to travelogue, with the stops obviously planned and researched well in advance, the urgency and much of the humour disappeared from these books. Read his diaries and novels instead, all highly recommended.

Palin is at his very best here with a true evocation of the place and the people. He is such a joy to listen to and you always get the rye humour as well as his affection for whomever he is meeting at the time. I thought this would be very long and somewhat tedious as much as the TV show was too short but sweet but I have thoroughly enjoyed it. This reading has whetted my appetite to visit which has been on my to do list for over 30 years!.
