Iris Scanlon, Half-Moon Hollow's only daytime vampire concierge, knows more about the undead than she'd like. Running all their daylight errands - from letting in the plumber to picking up some chilled O neg - gives her a look at the not-so-glamorous side of vampire life. Her rules are strict; relationships with vamps are strictly business, not friendship - and certainly not anything else. But then she finds her newest client, Cal, poisoned on his kitchen floor, and only Iris can help.
Cal - who would be devastatingly sexy, if Iris allowed herself to think that way - offers Iris a hefty fee for hiding him at her place until he figures out who wants him permanently dead. Even though he's imperious, unfriendly, and doesn't seem to understand the difference between "employee" and "servant", Iris agrees, and finds herself breaking more and more of her own rules to help him - particularly those concerning nudity. Turns out what her quiet little life needed was some intrigue and romance - in the form of her very own stray vampire.

"Points for hottie bad guy!"
I was pleasantly surprised with Molly Harper's latest, The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires.
I've read all her work (and I love Amanda Ronconi as her narrator) but generally felt that all her main characters across different books were largely the same. I had expected this book to be the same as the last one, Driving Mr Dead, since the premise is very similar, and was delighted to see that it was not only different, but also much more substantial, with well thought-out and fleshed out characters.
As per usual, the main point of the book is humour and romance, and the plot isn't that thrilling if you're not into botany but mostly serves as a mechanism to facilitate trials and opportunities for the romance to develop. At times the humour seems like an unrealistic reaction and detracts from a sense of peril, but since I don't think this is a genre of books which is supposed to be taken very seriously, it didn't ruin my experience.
The story progresses at a good pace and kept me interested all the way through.
The highpoint of the book for me was the sexy-evil-bad-guy scenes, even though I'm probably not supposed to cheer for him.
"Molly Harper does it again"
Loved, loved , loved this book. Molly Harpers books hit the perfect note in me. There is romance without all that over thye top slushey stuff and copious amounts of laugh out loud moments written beautifully and delivered to perfection by Amanda Ronconi.
I have read everything thing Molly has written and loved them all
"The care and feeding of stray vampires"
This book had me snared from the beginning,
I love how the writer showed a good sense of humour.
I would 100% reccomend this to anyone as a good read.
"Laugh out loud"
What a talent! The subject of vampires is so popular now that it must be almost impossible to get a new angle but Molly Harper has managed it beautifully - brilliant witty dialogue and made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion - not just between the heroine and hero but also the other characters in the book - excellent narration too - very refreshing and easy listening!
"Very pleasant surprise"
I really loved the book. I was searching for some light novel to doze off with and expected something Anita-Blake style but although it's obvious the author knows the work of L. K. Hamilton, I have found this book much more enjoyable than later books in the A.B. series. The amount of suspense and romance is balanced just right to keep you listening and enjoying every minute. Also, the narrator has done a great job. I liked her representation of various characters and her pronunciation was perfectly understandable which is something I as a non-native speaker highly appreciate. A lovely story in a lovely form.
"Was laughing and grinning all through this book!"
This book is absolutely fantastic! Iris really is a relatable female character, and I was oh so thankfull that she is sensible, cares for other then herself and yet can also be fiery and flipping hilarious! Unlike twilight.
And Cal, the male vampire, is damned sexy but so much more mature and yet portrays someone who has lived for thousands of years in a realistic way.
I would recommend this to anyone who loves vampire books but is also looking for a female lead character that isn't a silly teenage girl who just wants what she wants without actually thinking about real life implications.
The two adult scenes were damned hot too! ;D
Best I've read so far!!
