Bear Grylls is a man who has always sought the ultimate in adventure. Growing up on the Isle of Wight, he was taught by his father to sail and climb at an early age. As a teenager he found identity and purpose through both mountaineering and martial arts, which led the young adventurer to the foothills of the mighty Himalaya and a grandmaster's karate training camp in Japan. On returning home, he embarked upon the notoriously gruelling selection course for the British Special Forces to join 21 SAS - a journey that was to push him to the very limits of physical and mental endurance. Then, in a horrific free-fall parachuting accident, Bear broke his back in three places. It was touch and go whether he would ever walk again. However, only eighteen months later Bear became one of the youngest ever climbers to scale Everest, aged only 23. But this was just the beginning of his many extraordinary adventures . . .Known and admired by millions, Bear Grylls has survived where few would dare to go. Now, for the first time, Bear tells the story of his action-packed life.
Gripping, moving and wildly exhilarating, Mud, Sweat and Tears is a must-read for adrenalin junkies and armchair adventurers alike. Narrated by Tom Patrick Stephens, who Bear approved himself (since he was off adventuring!)

"I love this guy"
Listened to the whole book in a day. The bloke is amazing and his book was a joy.
"What a trooper"
Great read. The book focuses on his training and the climb. One very lucky guy that I can relate to in the back injury department. Its still an incredible journey in the short time this book goes on for and it leaves you wanting more. Better go watch some Man Vs wild now.
"The best"
This is the best autobiography I have ever read. Well written and narrated. Excellent, compelling.
"Bear Grylls an inspirational story"
I downloaded this autobiography on a whim. I had only ever seen one of his programs on the TV, but as chief scout I wanted to understand who he really was, and this fascinating story kept me enthralled from beginning to end. I am not an outdoors fanatic, and this is not the book for you if you think you will gain survival tips, however it is inspirational, and shows how determination, luck and a willingness to think outside the box when it comes to career choices can change a persons life completely.
The narrator is clear and easy to understand and really makes you think you are listening to Bear tell his trials and tribulations.
A great book.
"Inspiring and challenging"
I loved this book. It was great to hear all about the challenges of getting into the SAS. Also the danger and mental strength involved with climbing Everest. I loved Bear Grylls positive outlook on life, his ability to keep going against the odds and his zest for fun. The book left me feeling awed, inspired and challenged.
"Everything I hoped for"
If you like Bear Grylls' TV programmes and want to know more about the background to them then this is a must listen. It details Bear's life from birth to the present day focussing mainly on the time before he was on TV. It shows you the kind of man he really is and all of the things he has put himself through. The reader is a perfect substitute for Bear, his accent, tone of voice and style of delivery suit the material very well.
"Gritty & Inspiring"
Bear gives an intimate insight into his personal challenges, and private life. Vivid accounts of SAS selection from the comfort of your own home are brought to life by the animation of the narrator, until you might feel yourself pulsing with adrenalin from behind a cup f tea. Absolutely brilliant autobiography, which will inspire any listener to deal with their own challenges and rise above them.
"Fantastic"
Fantastic book, honestly written and inspirational! Really does show that you must 'trust your gut' in life.
"Inspirational and Uplifting"
Loved this book, kept thinking of all the people I would like to share it with and bought a copy for my son. A truely inspirational story, the challenges Bear has faced and overcome gave me courage to face entirely different but seemingly insurmountable challenges in my own life. The story was divided into 3 parts and each one better than the last.
"Don't judge a book by its cover"
A truly excellent read which took me by surprise. I imagined a book by Bear Grylls to be very action packed with little thought or time for intraspection. Wow how rong I was. Bear Grylls comes across as an extremely thoughtful man who has a great attitude to life and really sound values. This book is an excellent read which I would recommend to anyone. I'll certainly be on the look out for other books by Bear Grylls. The naration was excellent too with just the right pacing for the book.
