Max Hastings' study of the greatest and most terrible event in history continues in the second part of his epic book. There are vivid descriptions of the tragedies and triumphs of a host of ordinary people, in uniform and out of it, in an 'everyman's story'.

"Excellent listen"
Well written, beautifully read. This book had no trouble keeping my interest. Full of facts and figures, Max Hastings has just managed to keep on the right side of too many so it never becomes boring.I am not a keen historian and this book has taught me that, well presented, history is fascinating.
"Outstanding! A new modern rival to W. L. Shirer"
Outstanding! On par with Shirer's masterpiece if not surpassing it. This thought provocing book can amaze and haunt. A superb presentation of the human and financial cost of a global war. Covers not just the well documented areas of WW2 but covers some regions that are forgotten and are only known to younger generations due to current conflicts. The way the author covers the topics is well presented and easy to follow. It should be heard and read by all as with all wars it will not be the last one but the next one to worry about. How did mankind let this regime become so strong? Would we stop it happening elsewhere again? While the book does not cover this thought it makes me question that it is perhaps too late as the cycle is starting again! Listen to this audiobook you won't regret it, I have alreasy listened to this twice and I will do so again!

"Bluntly put."
. it takes out all the we won the war an replaces with some facts- History usually is written by the victors for the victors.. this work writes it as it is.. success and failure- Just a point.. the issues are a bit mixed up, there are 4 books, Book one Vol 1 & 2. and book 2 vol 1 & 2.. but whoever put it on here has got Vol 2 somewhat muddled up and calls them Vol 2 pt 2 and Vol 2 pt 3...- ?Just check it before you listen..- Well worth the money.
