Michel Thomas Method: Dutch Introductory Course

i am very happy with this audio book and have today just purchased the next grade. It really really helps when learning a language. The best part about it is the style in which it is thought in. If you like the free sample you will not be dissapointed with the purchase :)

The publisher notes claim that 'You will learn the language with the students, hearing both their successes and their mistakes to keep you motivated and involved throughout the course.'. That doesn't sound like a big deal until you try it and find that it's really true. I've tried learning a few other languages in the past with limited success, but I really feel this particular course is going to be a great help, and will be something that I'll listen to over and over if it doesn't stick the first time.

I started with the free sample, and was back for the introductory version as soon as I had some credits. And as soon as I'd listened to that I knew that it was worth upgrading to the full version.

It's so easy to learn with this course. Instead of repeating words and phrases parrot-fashion as you might have done at school, from the very beginning you are taught how to construct your own sentences using the more frequently-used verbs and shown how to apply the Dutch grammatical rules (which are surprisingly simple) to these verbs and others so that you can form your own sentences beyond those taught in the course. It is this aspect especially that makes this course unique; good practice is built in from the get-go. That many Dutch words are derived from the same Anglo-Saxon root as their English equivalent is a helpful advantage over some other Teutonic languages, and this is effectively demonstrated in this course.

The teacher is a native speaker from North Holland, and so the pronunciation is taught correctly from the start with tips on how to enunciate properly (even the infamous 'g' sound). With helpful mnemonics and positive encouragement along the way, this course in no way feels like you're in a regular classroom setting; rather a collegiate group of learners with absolutely no prerequisites necessary.
