Publisher's Summary

This edition is available only to listeners residing in the UK or European Union.

When seventeen-year-old Isabella Swan moves to Forks, Washington to live with her father she expects that her new life will be as dull as the town itself.

In spite of her awkward manner and low expectations, she finds that her new classmates are drawn to this pale, dark-haired new girl in town. But not, it seems, the Cullen family. These five adopted brothers and sisters obviously prefer their own company and will make no exception for Bella.

Bella is convinced that Edward Cullen in particular hates her, but she feels a strange attraction to him, although his hostility makes her feel almost physically ill. He seems determined to push her away - until, that is, he saves her life from an out of control car.

Bella will soon discover that there is a very good reason for Edward's coldness. He, and his family, are vampires - and he knows how dangerous it is for others to get too close.

    "The ballad of whining bella"

These books had so much promise and fail to deliver on all accounts. The plot of these books has so many holes its like reading a pin Cushion. and just as exciting.
If you did liked these, please try Kelley Armstrong's books they start with bitten and her writing style is so much better. unfortunatly audible uk only has The Awakening: Darkest Powers, Book 2 (Unabridged) which as it says is part 2 and is aimed at kids.
alternatly the queen of vampie writing... anne rice, this is how a story told from a vampires point of veiw should be.

im sure that the other reveiws out there will sway you into reading this but all i can say is.. dont believe the hype!

    "Lovely!"

Ok, unfortunately I watched the film first - loved it and read (listened to) the book. This didn't really work for me, as I think its best to get lost in the detail and story - then see the short film version. The story however is about a girl named Bella, who has to move from her living with her mother to, move in with her dad in a town called Forks. She then meets a chap at school, who has something about him (later it turns out that something is a quality held by vampires!), he is called Edward Cullen and part of the Cullen family who are renowned for being odd and are slightly feared within the small town. And the love story begins... I love the idea of the book the characters and story line which made it work for me. But I did get annoyed quite often at the detail, to which some I found boring/tedious when all I really wanted was for the story to continue (again this could be because I had watched the film first which is a visual 2hrs) I also found Bella (main character) a little annoying at times and pointless opinion on things bugged me several times throughout - However the rest of the characters were super to read about and really brought the story to life. Definitely read if you are a girl in need a new super male to fill any void, as the main male character in this book is defintely one for the long haul.. Or.. If you want something a bit different but entertaining all the same.

    "disappointing and annoying lead character"

This was a huge disappointment! I have read the books several times, and seen the films, and loved them. Any negative reviews of the audiobook, I took with a pinch of salt fairly confident I would enjoy it as much as the films/books. But, I found Bella tedious and annoying. I got so irritated listening to her fixate on the smallest Edward details, over and over again. I've even deleted the rest of the series from my wishlist, I won't be wasting my credits. Pity, I was looking forward to this series in particular when I joined up

    "Teenage vampire drama"

I probably don't fit the profile of reader that this book is targetting, but I must say that as a man in his late thirties, I still really enjoyed it. Despite all Bella's teenage angst and modest mantra 'why is the gorgeous Edward interested in someone as dull as me' irritatingly cropping up every third page, there is a great story here. I have read the second book as well and Bella is constantly bemoaning her good luck. The overall impression is that Bella never smiles - she seems to be in a constant sulk and between declaring her love for him, she spends most of the time being fractious with poor Edward.

All the same, I did enjoy it and the book is interesting enough for me to want to read the whole series. The film is very true to the book; almost verbatim in places. The only place it actually diverges is in the fact that whereas the book manages to develop some interesting chemistry between Edward and Bella, the actors chemistry in the film is more suited to two teenagers sitting opposite each other in an STD clinics waiting room.

    "Hooked"

Never having got into any of the vampire type tv series, I largely ignored the success of Twilight. With spare credits, I thought I'd try the first book out and now I'm hooked. I thought the narrator's voice beautiful and suited the character very well. Unlike another reviewer, I found the narration easy to follow, we're all different, so it's worth listening to the sample first.

    "Very enjoyable"

Having read a few mediocre reviews of Twilight, I wasn't expecting to like this book, but to my surprise I really enjoyed it. The plot had me hooked, and I found myself caring about the characters and what happened to them. The narrator is also very good, bringing the characters to life.
I'm now half-way through the 2nd book and am loving it.
