Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon enchanted scores of fans with Outlander, her electrifying historical saga set in 18th-century Scotland. Now the sequel sweeps listeners back into the past as Claire relates more of her perilous sojourn there with her Scottish warrior husband, James Fraser. Twenty years after her strange journey back in time, Claire has returned to Scotland with her daughter, determined to share with her the secret she has harbored since her time travel. Still longing to know the fate of her beloved warrior, she recounts the story of her stay with him in the intrigue-ridden court of Charles Stuart and their attempt to avert the doomed Highlands uprising at Culloden. As her story unfolds, it reveals implications more far-reaching than even Claire could have guessed.

Narrator Davina Porter's gift for expression captures the history and flavor of a harsh place and time, and gives it the polish of a warm and engaging love story.

    "A brilliant follow up"

This lived up to the brilliance of the first book, and I finished it in five days. Plenty of laughs and tears, and a gripping plot.

    "more sex than history"

I love historical novels, but this really is more of a romance novel with a bit of history thrown it as filler. If you are looking for a book with lots of sex scenes set in a 'period' ambiance this is your book, if you are looking for more history than slightly vulgar sex than this one isn't for you.

    "A good romp through time"

After reading Outlander I suprised myself by buying this sequal and enjoying it too. I found the 'history' aspect mixed with the adventure and romance enough to make me want to read it to the end. Yes, not what I would call serious literature but great fun and entertaining. Now I find myself wanting to know what happens next!! Ohh no, hooked .............

"I finally have the entire series.."

...books 5 and 6 not previous;ly having been available, and am on my wya back through them.

They are as good as I remembered.

Fascinating historical storyline, incredibly engaging characters.

THe only things that let the books down, are

    a) an increasing tendency for superfluous sex scenes, particularly in book 3 which only detract from the story

    b) For some reason, Audible have ALL 7 books but book 6 is ABRIDGED. I HATE abridged books!

A shame as I'd give the entire series 5 stars if it wasn't for point a). As it is, a 4 will do. I still enjoyed them enough to buy them all and listen twice which is no mean feat for such epics!

The narrator is absolutely superb by the way. Individual character's voices which are maintained throughout and a nice speed to it. Helps you get totally lost in the stories

"I wanted to like it but...."

The problem with all the best stories is that is the narrator cannot bring the book to life then it doesn't matter how well written is the essence is already lost. That is the problem I have with this book. Davina Porter does not have the vocal range of accents to narrate a book with as many characters and nationalities as these. She tried hard in Outlander, and until the very last section was OK, but in this books she seems to have given up. Rodger keeps undulating between Scottish and English, Clair seems to do the same and I don't even know where Brianna's voice has come from but it certainly isn't recognizable as American. Someone really should have told her to go away practice accents and come back. I think it is a real shame that a book as well written as this should have a narrator who can do it justice, and I'm sorry but Davina Porter just doesn't
