Publisher's Summary

The Tin Roof Blowdown begins with the shooting of two would-be looters in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, and then follows a motley group of characters - from street thugs to a big-time mob boss, from a junkie priest to a sadistic psychopath.

As their stories converge on a cache of stolen diamonds, the storm turns the Big Easy into a lawless wasteland of apocalyptic proportions,

    Story
    "brilliant"

Whether you are already fan of crime novels or not - and i would recommend this to any fan of fred vargas, or even carl hiassen - this book also offers an extraordinary account of the aftermath of hurricane katrina, including the heroic actions of local public services - police, hospitals, coast guards - in the face of the murderous and contemptible neglect perpetrated by washington under the bush administration. next to dave robicheaux, new orleans is the star of this book. it is also smart, wise, cool, funny, stylish, humane - and incredibly well narrated by will patton. one of the best audio books i have ever come across. 6 stars. no, 7.

    Story
"The genius of James Lee Burke"

I have been a fan of James Lee Burke for many years, but this was the first of his novels I have listened to. Everything about this novel, & this audio presentation of it, was just outstanding. It was wonderful to hear his prose read with an authentic accent, an accent that rises from his words on the page when you read them. A complicated, gritty, honest, moral look at the catastrophe not only of Katrina, but the handling of it by the American Government. He is one of the only writers I know who can handle real painful life in a way that never resorts to being simplistic. A total gem of an audio book.

    Story
    "fantastic and addictive"

Everyone must listen to this fantastic audio book.It brings the total collapse in 'normality' during hurricane Katrina and spins a thriller of the very highest quality.
I highly recommend this brilliantly written thriller.I have been a keen James Lee Burke reader but this is just superb,I think it is his best one yet and that is saying something.
The plot is full of intrigue and the characters are brilliant and I was addicted.I have since researched hurricane Katrina and wonder what would happen in my sleepy UK town if the same circumstances happened. It is thought provoking and sometimes superbly distrubing but this is a must in any brilliant thriller or suspense novel.

    "Kept me guessing.."

Great narration - some distinctive voices for the different characters and the story was interesting and not obvious. Though the first Dave Robicheaux novel, it's my 2nd listen (after Glass Rainbow), and I'll continue with the other books in the series..

    "After the flood"

I cannot recommend this book highly enough, especially Will Patton's wonderful silky voice. The story is complex enough to grip and not to confuse. The description of New Orleans after the destruction by Hurricane Katrina is astounding and I am sure totally true. Don't miss out on this book!
