"A beautiful reading by Juliet Stevenson"
Ms Stevenson's knowledge of and passion for this book really come through. A stunning reading.
"Jane Eyre"
A book I've always wanted to read but never had the time. This audiobook is extraordinary. Bronte was an amazing writer. I'm so pleased I finally had a chance to listen to this.
"Truely engaging"
This novel is beautifully brought to life. Superbly read and maintaining the true emotion of the story. A faithful and sensitive reading.
"Fantastic 'read'"
I loved this book, I read it years ago but the audio version read by a fantastic narrator is brilliant
"Wonderful!!!"
What can I say? This has always been one of my favorite stories and this version of telling is just wonderful!. I have listened to a few books narrated by Juliet Stevenson and I think she is one of the best. I was spellbound from beginning to end, a beautiful love story told beautifully!
"A riveting listen"
Simply perfect in every respect! Juliet Stevenson reads in a smooth, flowing, seemingly effortless, manner. This makes this audio book a brilliant and, in my opinion, the best way to receive this classic work - all the intricate detail and gripping story of the original book but without the labour of having to frequently re-read sentences written in archaic form (in order to grasp their meaning). Very highly recommended!
"Enduring classic"
Jane Eyre is a story of which most people will know the storyline without my having to retell it. One of the reasons I chose this version was because of the narrator, Juliet Stevenson, whose narration I have enjoyed before. I must say, however, I did find her characterisation of Jane a little flat at times leaving me feeling like I wanted to give her a good shake (Jane, that is, not Juliet!). Also, not having read this book for a while, and having heard meanwhile that Charlotte Bronte didn't consider Jane Austen's books "great literature", I was aware of a certain pomposity to Bronte's writing. All in all, though, Jane Eyre is an enduring classic & as such is a good listen by a very good narrator.
"Timeless"
I was astonished to find how much i could relate to a character from the mid 19th century. Some of the language is archaic but that didnt matter at all. As ever, Juliet Stevenson bought it to life and i found myself saying aloud "No, dont do it! " or " YESSS! " as the heroine tried to deal with what life threw at her.
"Thge very best of the lot!"
This version is completely and deeply engrossing from the very first paragraph. I feel I am included in Charlotte's story as she introduces me as her ''Gentle reader''. I am gripped far more than I have been of other versions. It is read with empathy for all characters and a great understanding of the author as well as the sory told. I most highly recommend to all readers out there to purchase this version most of all. Yours Truly Indie.
"Impressive story and narrator"
I greatly enjoyed the story and I was very impressed with the narrator. Her French accent sounded very good, although I am not really the best person to judge a French accent. Her voice was well used for both male and female characters with various accents and from various walks of life.
I found the story very interesting and it gripped me from the start. I have not read or listened to many books of this genre, but this one has encouraged me to explore it further.
I would highly recommend this book and I have been impressed by Bronte and Stevenson alike.
