"Inspiring!"
Absolutly amazing and moving story, superbly narrated. Inspires one to make a difference in the world. Highly recommended to everyone.
"Incredible"
I was shocked by this book, particularly as everything happened so recently and it still goes on. It has really opened my eyes to modern-day slavery. This is not to be missed and I strongly recommend everyone to listen to this.
"Shocking"
A disturbing account of a young girls enslavement and the brutal and horrific treatment she endured at the hands of the two families who subsequently 'owned' her.
Mende was 12 years old when she was snatched by slavers from her loving family in Sudan. After years of inhuman treatment, she finally ends up working for the family of a diplomat in London. From here she manages to escape and eventally gains asylum.
This raw account should be read as part of the school curriculum, to create awareness of modern day slavery and it's impact on survivors.
Beautifully read - a 'must listen'......
"Slave"
Utterly gripping, mind opening and important. History writes itself by the minute and this is a significant part of today's shocking history - told by it's protagonist in the most heart thumping way. I was so affected by the book that I will soon be meeting the writer so see how I (or rather my favourite club on this earth) can help her.
