When Muslim fundamentalists blow up a key Soviet oil complex, making an already critical oil shortage calamitous, the Russians figure they are going to have to take things into their own hands. They plan to seize the Persian Gulf, and more ambitiously, to neutralize NATO. Thus begins Red Storm, an audacious gamble that uses diplomatic maneuver to cloak a crash military build-up. When Soviet tanks begin to roll, the West is caught off guard. What looks like a thrust turns into an all-out shooting war, possibly the climactic battle for control of the globe.

"Classic Clancy"
I have always enjoyed the story so going over to audio was going to be a tough one. The narrator was okay, but a bit dull. Great story, but I recommend listening to a good stretch of the sample to make sure you can stand the voice.
"Girlie Approval"
As the other reviewer I was extremely pleased to see this available for download. It is without a doubt my favourite Clancy novel and I love the wargaming detail even though I am technically a girl!
Loved the length, good value for money and I have already listened to it twice. The only thing is that often when I am distracted, that is attention is required by reality, you miss subtle plot elements of which there are many which contribute to the great story telling.
"Toys for the Boys!"
I read the paperback years ago and was impressed with Mr. Clancy?s knowledge of military and technical matters and the way he tells a good yarn, managing to seamlessly weave multiple sub-plots in to the story.
I was delighted to see this book on Audible so downloaded it immediately - I was not disappointed! Very long and excellent value for money!
Only one criticism, for some reason, the narrator Mr. Prichard does have a problem pronouncing vehicle, perhaps its an American thing but ?Vee-ickle? does grate after a while?.! Highly enjoyable and recommended, but one for the boys I think.
"Good read/ listen"
This is my favourite Tom Clancy novel and I have read it many times. The audible version did not disappoint and I was as totally engrossed as when I read the book. The plot is great and moves around at a great pace that keeps you hooked; when the book moves to a different are,a as engrossing as it is, you are always waiting to see how other characters are getting on. The narration is great and kept me listening. I would thoroughly recommend this listen/ read to anyone.
"Believable, complex, thrilling"
This story will be most enjoyed by those people that remember the cold war and the pre-glasnost tensions that existed between the east and west. I think this story may resonate well with anyone that was in the military during that period with its believable storyline and excellent technical/tactical detail.
The story starts off with several apparently disparate threads that are intricately weave together during the course of the story. This makes the story quite difficult to follow and not one I would recommend if you can only intermittently listen to (unless you have a very good memory).
Overall, a great story, well read - 5 star recommended listen
"Top Read this!"
One of my favourite Tom Clancy books, must have read it a doesen times. Decided to get it on audio book format. The auido version is of good quality and more importantly the narator has an epic voice
"A perfect thriller for our times..."
I've always been a fan of Tom Clancy and he doesn't disappoint here. The narrative draws you in and you a quite imagine the events unfolding present day. A master of the modern day warfare thriller Tom Clancy doesn't disappoint.
"The Definative WW3 Story"
Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising is the only fictional WW3 type book with any sense of authenticity. In fact the book is so accurate that I would make my students read it when I was the chief instructor at a Military Intelligence school!
The story itself is quite believable bearing in mind that it is based on the old Soviet Russia. In Red Storm Rising, the Cold War becomes a real war due to the whim of a few individuals. The background, build up and then the detailed war scenarios based in several different theatres keeps you on the edge of your seat. It's a book you never want to put down but once you've read it, you will want to read it again.
The narration is a little flat to begin with, but as the tension rises the narrator slowly comes to life. Overall, it's well read and the suspense and tension remains with the listener throughout.
If you only ever buy one Tom Clancy book then it has to be this one. Although based during the Cold War, it is realistic in the way the story develops, the fighting and tactics used. An excellent book!
"Excellent storyline, with good detail"
Read this originally in the early 90s in hardback. A delight to listen to it again, and it was just as good the second time.
Well worth a read if you ever fancy reading about what may so easily have come to pass...
