The story of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III rise to fame, through his dragon-training exploits, told in Hiccup's own words by David Tennant.
Hiccup was a truly extraordinary Viking Hero, Warrior chieftain, awesome sword-fighter and amateur naturalist. He was known throughout Vikingdom as 'the Dragon Whisperer' on account of his power over these terrifying beasts. But it wasn't always like that....

"A family favourite"
I cannot recommend these books highly enough. They have made long car journeys with young children fly by as we were all immersed into the viking world of Hiccup and his friends. The narration by David Tennant is remarkable. His voices bring the characters to life with some gorgeous regional accents (the Bog Burglers especially). We bring the ipod in from the car to finish the stories off in the kitchen they are so good.
"How to Train Your Dragon"
The whole family enjoyed it thoroughly. David Tenant's voice is fantastic.
"Not just for kids"
David Tennant does a stellar job bringing the story to life. Even if you are not a kid anymore, Cressida Cowell's tales of Hiccup are so much fun to listen to that it is seriously addictive. Shame though that this is an abridged version.
"Great fun!"
I purchased this audiobook in advance of our Summer holiday thinking it may keep the kids entertained on our long car journeys. I have listened to it in advance to make sure it is suitable. I am thinking that perhaps my 4 year old is a touch too young for it. Nevertheless, it was great fun to listen to and I found myself giggling alot! David Tennant is a fab narrator and captures the characters really well. Highly recommended!
"Brilliant book for the family"
We have listened to this book on various car trips now - it's one of the children's favourites. The story is engaging and entertaining, and David Tenant does a fantastic job of reading it.
"Great fun"
Bought for a long drive, we all (2 adults, 9yo boy, 7yo girl) really enjoyed Tennant's reading of this. Almost nothing like the Dreamworks film, of course, here the Scottish Hairy Hooligan tribe all have dragon pets and the weedy Hiccup, son of the fearsome Chief Stoick The Vast gets the smallest, sarkiest, and most cowardly dragon any of them have ever seen. How will Hiccup and Toothless fare in a intertribe dragon tournament (against an apparently Northern Irish neighbour tribe) as well as an alarmingly vast sea dragon coming up from his slumber at the ocean?
David Tennant is predictably deft at all the funny accents, and we all had great fun with this audiobook.
"Fantastic"
Fantastic book - was a little reluctant to buy the audio book as my children saw the film. However the plot of the book is completely different - the part the same as the film is Hiccup's character. The story line is radically different - which was great as non of knew what was coming next.
David Tennant is great to listen to - and had me giggling a few times. My two are 7 and 9 and loved it.
Way better than the film.
"Fantastic !!!"

"Great family listening"
Kept us entertained on a long car journey. Not sure it's abridged though as currently reading it to my youngest at bedtime and it seems exactly the same. It's not a terribly long book.
