The trap is set. Failure is not an option.

When government hit man Will Robie is given his next target he knows he’s about to embark on his toughest mission yet. Sound Effects

If, like me, you prefer your audio stories without sound effects, this is not the story for you.

The sound effects, gun shots, music, bangs, etc., are intrusive, annoying and completely unnecessary.

For me, the sound effects completely ruined the book.

I like it but

I'm really enjoying this series so far and it's narrated really well. I'm not sorry keen on the music and sound effects. feel like they are not needed with such a good narrator.

A plot that follows a theme for Baldacci

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you like crime thrillers then David Baldacci doesn't disappoint. His books all vary around a theme, Robie and Reel are a variation on a theme to King and Maxwell. That doesn't detract from the plots which tend to be well thought out with several potential villains. If you like conspiracy plots with lots hung ho go get em action, this is for you.

Ron and Orlagh are great narrators, that add that extra dimension to the book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Robie is the main stay of the books, comes across as a logical thinker but someone scared of getting involved to to the risk of emotional attachment. Expected to be a robot and follow orders, there is a side to Robie that shows a compassionate streak that he keeps well hidden.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

It's difficult to outline a scene you like without flagging a spoiler alert. The roof top assignation was interesting as this is where Baldacci exploited the emotional play that Robie clearly tries to suppress much to his own inner detriment.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

You can't help but get dragged into the plot and feeling compassion of one of the main characters. The storyline gripped me as there were many strings that eventually all come together. As it all comes to a climax the tension rises as you are routing for Robie to win.

Any additional comments?

If you like King and Maxwell you will more than likely enjoy Robie and Reel. I would recommend giving the first book in the series a go. You should read them in order as they make more sense that way and you get the relationship between the main players. You can pick any one up and read it, but that wouldn't be my choice.

Very Good Read

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Because it is a very good story

Who was your favorite character and why?

Will Robie. He may be a killer but he has a limit to who he kills.

What does Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

They each tell the story from male and female perspectives.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes it is.

Why Oh Why? So Derivative.....

Why oh why do I keep buying books from David Baldacci? The readers are , as per usual, excellent. However, the characterisation is poor, the dialogue is awful and the plotting nonsensical.
I paid good money for this Audiobook but I cannot for the life of me understand why I keep falling for the same old storyline. Please, look elsewhere for your thrills and spills ( Vince Flynn or John Connolly to name but a couple ). If you do still go ahead and buy this book, please listen to the dialogue. People simply do not converse in this way! Never ever! Baldacci makes a point of telling the reader that the main protagonist is super tough, every half chapter. It's tiresome in the extreme. This is the equivalent of paint it by numbers.
Look elsewhere.

Loved it

Another gritty Baldacci story. Ron McLarty adds strength to the Will Robie character. Once again the American's ruling the world in their own way. The additional characters are beginning to develop too which adds a nice undertone to the main story. Will continue with this series.

Will Robie rocks!

What did you like most about The Hit?

It's a crime thriller that is happy to exist in it's own skin. Doesn't try to be anything else. I bonded with Will Robie, serious dude in book one... and felt that I got to know him a bit more in this. It's just a great listen.
The fade-in/fade-out music and sound effects that had me raising an eyebrow in book 1 only added to the experience here. I've bought into it.

Have you listened to any of Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy ’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Ron McLarty is great - I'll bet he is just like Will Robie.

Any additional comments?

When is book three?
