"Good, but not the best of the series"
Guards! Guards! is one of the earlier discworld books and is the first time we are introduced to the City Watch making it their first in that line of books set in the discworld.
This is a fantastic story and it is well read, however the truth is that Planer is not as good at the unabridged recordings as Briggs and as a result I have lowered my score.
There is also the fact that as this is an early Guards book its just not as fleshed out as some of its sequels and as a result I cant really give it five stars because doing so would cheapen the five star novels from later on in the series.
If you love Discworld you will love this (I did), however while listening to it just remember that there is far better to come
"Guards! Guards!: Discworld, Book 8"
There is nothing I would criticise about this audio book. Terry Pratchett is at his best writing another hilarious story for the the guards series, Nigel Planner narrates it brilliantly bringing to life the atmosphere and characters of the disc world and it is unabridged, which is important because with a book this good you really don't want to miss out on huge chunks of it.
"Guards are the funniest"
The Guards books from the Discworld series are my high favourites, with witty and fast moving plots.
The characters, and especially Nigel Planers brilliant verbalisation for each and every voice, are just absolutely fantastic.
Having read a few of the books also, I find the Audio versions, narrated by Nigel Planer at least, are soo much more enjoyable. Two thumbs up for the combo Pratchett - Planer !
"Didn't expect Dragons"
Sheer genius, took us from the gutter and plonked us into respectability! Well for Vimes at least! Fantastic and Nigel Planer gives excellent caracters to the people of this book.
