Publisher's Summary

Part Two of The Name of The Wind (Unabridged).

'I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep. My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me'.

So begins the tale of Kvothe - now an unassuming innkeepter - from his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, through his years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime-riddled city, to his daringly brazen bid to enter a difficult and dangerous school of magic. With his reputation at the university and the Eolian growing by the day, Kvothe's story takes him to Trebon and his legendary encounter with a dragon.

    "Absolutely BRILLIANT!"

What an amazing piece of story telling. This book is beautifully written and the narrator is fantastic. He really leads you deep into the story and his individual characterisations are superb.

There is a problem with this book though and it's already been pointed out by other reviewers and that is Audible's greed. Splitting books like this just isn't on, it means that we listeners are having to fork out 2 credits for 1 book and I did not sign up for that! That being said this is so good I couldn't wait for next month's credits to roll round so I bought part 2 AND the next book in the series. BUT if Audible starts splitting many more books in the future I suggest we vote with our feet and cancel memberships until they put this right. I don't go into a bookshop and buy 1/2 a book, so why are you doing this Audible?!?!?!

    "Expensive"

Don't buy this from here as Audible have split the book into two, the whole book is available from iTunes.

The book was a little slow but kept me wanting to here every little story.

"Great book, great narration, highly recommended"

This is part two of the first book of what is generally expected to be a trilogy (which is a bit confusing!).

Great story, beautifully written. The narration is fantastic and adds to the enjoyment of this book. Would describe it as Harry Potter meets steam punk perhaps. The way magic works in this world is very interesting and "convincing". Lots of colourful characters and multi-layered hero, and I like the way the adventure is framed by "interludes" in the present - can't wait for the story being told to catch up to the people telling it!

I hope book 2 will be available on audible soon, I'm reading it now but will listen to it as well - it's that good!!!

    "Excellent but...."

The plot and the narration are first class. But it is disgusting that Audible have broken both books in to two parts -

The Name of the Wind (Part One) - separate purchase

The Name of the Wind (Part Two) - separate purchase

The Wise Mans Fear (Part One) - separate purchase

The Wise Mans Fear (Part Two) - separate purchase

So instead of purchasing two books, you have to purchase 4 books. Disgraceful in my opinion.

    "Excellent 'read'"

I would not normally consider myself a 'fantasy' fan - I don't like Lord of the Rings (probably because of the derth of female characters). However, a friend recommended Game of Thrones to me which made me reassess the genre. He then suggested The Name of the Wind which I was delighted to see was available from Audio. Wow! This is an amazing book.Great characterisation - even the women - and a strong plot. I like the fact that the central character does not always come out best in a situation.

So if you are not sure about 'fantasy' I recommend this book to show that there are good books in the genre.

I would also agree with other reviewers about the narrator who is excellent - including his reading of the women's parts - some male narrators leave a lot to be desired in that quarter!

    "Amazing story and fantastic narrator"

This is an amazing story with so many twists and turns and so thrilling I found myself listening to it well into the early hours of the morning! Rupert Degas is truly an exceptional narrator and brings the story to life brilliantly, I can't praise him enough.

    "Fantastic"

A fantastic read, I loved every minute of this audiobook. It is completely engrossing, transporting you to another world with believable, well-rounded characters that you become invested in. If you enjoyed books like The Assassin's Apprentice (Robin Hobb) or The Way of Kings (Brandon Sanderson) then you will love this book. Part of a trilogy, the first book is split into two parts. I cannot wait for the final book in the series!

    "Ultra fantastic!"

I get through a lot of these fantasy style books , and I have to say this is a favorite. I love everything about it, the story, the narration , the characters, the world. I cant recommend this strongly enough with out making up a whole new word, and I can't think of one right now ..so you'll just have to trust me.
Now lets just take a moment to clap Patrick Rothfuss!!

"The Name of the Wind Part 2"

Perhaps the most intriguing thing about this book is the narration - am I the only person who thinks it sounds as if it is Richard Burton reading it? He brings so much texture to a really good story

    "Good stuff"

A strong story, and quality voice acting which really works.
Not sure why we pay twice to get one book in this case - but it's worth it if you're paying by credits rather than cash.
