Lee Evans is one of the best-loved comedians in the country; a Hollywood star able to sell out arenas in the blink of eye. But he was not always such a roaring success. Read unabridged by the man himself, the audiobook edition of The Life of Lee is an utterly hilarious and very moving autobiography, charting his ups and downs on the way to the top. Lee takes us on a darkly humorous journey through his childhood spent running wild on a Bristol housing estate and his unconventional school days, when he was publicly derided as 'a failure' by a sadistic teacher.
In this brilliantly entertaining and engaging tale, he also guides us through a grim teenage period of numerous dead-end jobs. When he was cleaning toilets and plucking turkeys, he could never have imagined that one day he would be playing to thousands of adoring fans at the O2 Arena. The reading also reveals how as a boy Lee got his first taste of showbiz, living out of a suitcase and accompanying his entertainer father around the smoky, rowdy, unforgiving working-men's club and theatre circuit. Desperately struggling to be accepted, this quiet young loner always saw himself as an outsider. But he finally met the love of his life and accidentally discovered the one place where he felt at home: the stage. The Life of Lee is a story that is like its subject: compelling, touching, charming and, above all, fantastically funny.

"Excellent"
From poverty stricken beginnings to his big break and everything in between, laughter and tears,a brilliant and thoroughly enjoyable book.
"Excellent"
Lee Evans reads this book as he lived it- with enthusiasm and great heart. His story is one of an exceptional person in very ordinary circumstances. He is all the more likeable for not recognising the extent of his talent.
The story of his life dashes along with brightly painted word portraits of the characters illustrating the path he takes. I found myself listening to the story over two days and feeling I knew Lee Evans and would love to have a pint down the pub in his company.
A charming book, and an unexpected treasure.
"really fascinating"
I didn't realise about his life, what a really interesting and well read book, Couldn't put it down.
"Too long too boring"
This book was all about Lee's early life, but a whole book devoted to it? Not for me, sorry
"a fantastic listen."
Im not a fan of lee evans stage shows due to the amount of bad language he uses but I wanted to give this book a go because his life sounded intresting yet normal (ish!) I loved the book and he read it so you could hear the feelings in his voice. I only remember 1 sware word and it wax entertaining. Trust me you will laugh out load and feel his pain.

"Frank and Funny"
I've lost count of the amount of times I have listened to this book. It's honest and from the heart - sometimes devastatingly moving, sometimes uncontrollably funny, but always fantastically told and a gripping story.
Do NOT hesitate to buy!
"Not too bad"
Not too bad a book really, although I do feel that a life growing up a bit skint is somewhere a lot of us have been. But tha said I do like Lee Evans and it does provide a few laughs along the way, Also I can relate to a lot of the stories as I know a lot of the places he talks about
