One freezing night in Oslo Christmas shoppers gather to listen to a Salvation Army street concert. An explosion cuts through the music, and a man in uniform falls to the ground, shot in the head at point-blank range.
Harry Hole and his team have little to work with: no immediate suspect, no weapon and no motive. But when the assassin discovers he has shot the wrong man, Harry Hole's troubles have only just begun. After some exceptionally shrewd detective work, the team begins to close in on a suspected hit man, monitoring his credit card, false passport and the line to his employer. With no money, only six bullets and no place to stay in the bitter cold, the hit man becomes increasingly desperate. He will stop at nothing to eliminate his target. Moving at a breathless pace, The Redeemer is Jo Nesbo's most gripping thriller yet.

"Gripping Listen........"
After listening to the millenium series lost for what next to fill the hole - this and the snowman are equal in my eyes. Simpler storyline and easier to follow but not to the books discredit. Unable to stop and think Lisbeth Salander should work with Harry! Redeemer first if in doubt. Brilliant - more please!
"Brilliant"
This was my first Jo Nesbo but it won't be my last. Yes it was slow to start with, and the parallel plot lines with characters carry out the same actions with hardly a pause in the narration during the early stages of the book was somewhat confusing until I discovered what was going on. But once I was into the story it was a fascinating plot, with numerous twists turns and surprises. Rather akin tot he old fashioned 'who dunnit' I think that all the clues are in you story for the reader/listener to work out who did what and to whom! Needless to say I didn't manage to piece together all the clues, Very well narrated with excellent characterisation I thoroughly recommend this book.
Interestingly my wife read the book whilst I listened to it, and I have to admit that it was useful to have the printed version to hand for reference, although perhaps Audible would not wish to hear that! Still it led to some interesting meal time conversations between us over the plot lines.
"Very Good"
This is the second Jo Nesbo book I have listened to (I started with the Snowman). I really like his style of writing, the storyline is compelling and clever. Harry Hole is an entertaining character, intense, flawed and laugh out loud funny at times too, with the narration by Sean Barrett really bringing him to life.
I can't get enough of Nesbo at the moment, please stock his other titles too if they are available, I am sure they will fly off of your virtual shelves...
"Nordic Noir at its best"
I've just finished this title and can't recommend it enough. This is the first Nesbo book I've listened to, after previously enjoying the Millenium Trilogy. Narration is excellent, and suits the gritty and dark themes of the books and characters. The story has enough twists and turns to keep you guessing, even if you work out some of it before the final chapters there's many layers to this book.
One thing to note - it's about mid-way through Nesbo's Harry Hole series, so I wouldn't necessarily advise starting with this title. I'm going to order the earliest available ones in the series and take it from there!
"Not an Easy Listen"
I just didn't enjoy this book. It wasn't easy to follow, it wasn't because it was a complicated book but I just found it quite boring which I didn't feel was the narrators fault but the story in general. I nearly gave up on it several times and I would have done if I had been reading it. I just didn't feel it was cripping enough and with the story being based around the salvation army it wasn't for me. There are so many other books out there which are better. It was a shame because I was really looking forward to a Jo Nesbo book.
"Did Not Enjoy"
I did not enjoy this book at all. I thought, when it started, it was going to be good but not the case. I found the whole book very disjointed, very confusing with all the names and could not follow it at all. I did persevere to the end and found the ending a disappointment also. I know others have enjoyed it immensely but certainly not one for me.
"Not for me"
This is the only Audiobook I've not managed to finish.
I'd heard good things about the author, enjoyed Stieg's books therefore I should have liked this but it just didn't grab me. I found it pretty slow and unlike many other audiobooks started drifting off in thought thus meaning I kept having to re-listen.
"Not his best."
This started out really well and I was enjoying it a lot, but then the momentum was lost and I am not sure if I will get around to finishing it at all. Good narrator but a little too slow paced for me.
"Excellent!"
The story is gripping from the begining and is well read from the narrator. Not once over the 18 hours of listening did my attention slip and i've become a big fan of Harry Hole and Jo Nesbo. If you're looking for a twisting, gripping and thrilling listen then dont overlook this gem.
"read this"
This is by far the best book so far, complex, informative and gripping.. more please
