"Relax and forget that your're learning!"

I never did German at school, but I intend to live out there eventually, so needed to learn the language from scratch. I feel so fortunate to have found this, as it does everything it promises to do. It has really tuned my ear in to the language, and by playing it in the background as I do household chores or whilst driving, with vrtually no effort, I have begun to understand and say some very useful sentences and phrases. My German speaking friends have commented that my pronunciation is very authentic, too. A real find! I can't wait for Volume 2.

"Winfried - Why English don't learn languages?"

I find the previous poster Winfried's assessment most amusing and so typically German.

If a German is speaking to me and says "your name is?", I simply, politely, reply "Andrew".

Winfired would no doubt say "No, it's what is your name!!!"

Why do Germans get so hung up on things like pronunciation yet the British are happy to just accept that our visitors are making an effort and we answer accordingly. This is exactly why so many British simply don't bother, and Germans have us down as rude.

This is a great audiobook. So you're not going to end up speaking exactly how Winfried wishes you to, but you know what, you'lll get by and be appreciated, by most.

So Wilfried, whilst I am dishing out advice - try watching this, and see how you fools make us feel, despite us making an effort - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbobnfaBhcg

    "Learning German"

Like any of the language courses, you get out what you put in. This course uses a music background with a native and English speaker going over German phrases and words. The course tends to provide a sentence, in English, and then in German and then breaks down all the words in the sentence, and the pronunciations for the words. The course is similar to the other earworms courses, and if you liked one of the others I imagine you'll ; like this one.

It's not a bad idea, although the tunes are not that great, I find that I can recall some of the sentences. A good supplement for learning, or for a quick fix before heading on holiday but it is not a good standalone course.

"Used skills learnt in Germany and was successful"

Have tried several CD language systems to varying degrees of success but this is the best i have every used. Whilst it will not turn you into a fluent German speaker, it does give the confidence to use the language when with Germanic speakers.

    "Great way to learn!"

I started learning German with this audiobook and after just a few days I've picked up enough of the language to have a passable chat with friends. Great for learning on the commute to work - just put it on and listen. My only criticism is of Amazon/Audible - the DRM means that I can't put this onto my phone to listen :(

    "Pleasantly suprised"

I have to admit that I am pleasantly suprised as to how much I am actually enjoying Vol 1. I downloaded it to my Sony Ericsson phone and found the sound quality to be crystal clear. This is the first German course that I have continued with plus it makes my journey to and from work fly by. I will definately be purchasing Vol 2.

    "Useful idea"

Some useful phrases and the ability to here the same phrase repeated several times is invaluable. I’ve actually got vol.2 of this as well, and the pronunciation on that is clearer than on parts of volume 1. Given that “ihn”, “ihm” and “ihnen” mean different things, it’s vital that the ends of words are enunciated clearly.

    "Very effective"

I listened to this, plus Vol. 2, before a short trip to Austria, and found it very effective. I have 'O' level German from hundreds of years ago, but have forgotten most of it. This was a useful reminder of vocabulary and essential sentence structure.

    "German like a "Gangsta Rappa""

It's water, not wata, right? In German it is also wasser and not wassa. This Earworm title is not up to my expectation of a crisp and crystal clear pronunciation. However, as a native speaker I did not go through the whole course.
