Publisher's Summary

Grainy CCTV footage shows a man walking into a bank and putting a gun to a cashier's head. He tells her to count to twenty-five. When he doesn't get his money in time, she is executed. Detective Harry Hole is assigned to the case. While Harry's girlfriend is away in Russia, an old flame gets in touch. He goes to dinner at her house and wakes up at home with no memory of the past twelve hours. The same morning the girl is found shot dead in her bed. Then Harry begins to receive threatening e-mails. Is someone trying to frame him for this unexplained death?

Meanwhile the bank robberies continue with unparalleled savagery. Gripping and surprising, Nemesis is a thriller by one of the biggest stars of Scandinavian crime fiction.

    "Your worst 'best friend'."

You absolutely know that Harry will come through for you but along the way he will take you on a roller coaster ride of mistakes, bad judgement, wrong turns and the odd bender. This all makes for a riveting read and you find yourself doing the literary equivalent of shouting at the television! Harry......what are you doing? Harry Hole is one of the most interesting characters I have met (read). In real life you would wonder how he gets by and yet Jo Nesbo writes in such a way that he is so 'real' you think perhaps you are missing something and that maybe this is the way to be. As a hero he has many faults but you cannot help but admire the inner voice that somehow keeps him on the straight and narrow. The story is deftly paced, building twists and turns into the plot with effortless ease. I find myself waiting for the next story and dare I say it the inevitable screenplay. Now there's a question - who would you want to play Harry?

    "Super read"

This is the third book of the Harry Hole series I've read in as many weeks, and I enjoyed it just as much as the others. This is a little more conventional than The Redbreast but still a cracking psychological thriller that weaves together the strands of two different investigations that prove to be related. Jo Nesbø has a real talent for complex plots that keep you guessing all the way, only to be surprised you didn't join the dots earlier when the reveal happens. Looking forward to the conclusion of the Oslo Trilogy and fifth in the Harry series now - The Devil's Star.

    "Another great book!"

Yet another fab book from Jo Nesbo with lots of twists and turns and with Harry crashing from one drama to the next! This story see Harry involved with the

Gypsy community and also the life of bank robbers. He manages to not sink too far in to his usual alcoholic stupor, but for how long he can hold it together, only he knows. Brilliant story I can recommend .......

    "So far but no further"

Having heard good things of Jo Nesbo I thought I would give this a try. Initially tickled with the idea that the name of his detective Harry Hole translates as Harry Hill I rapidly got annoyed with the tale. I finally gave up about 2 hours from the end as the whole thing (no pun intended) had become just too preposterous, each situation becoming more and more far-fetched. Being brought up and loving the "golden age" authors like Margery Allingham, Agatha Christie, John Dickson Carr, Michael Gilbert and so on maybe I'm not the audience Nesbo was seeking.

    "Disappointing"

This is not as good as other Nordic mystery books. I found it too boring to finish. The style seemed incredibly plodding. Sean Barrett does well with the poor material.
