"Over hyped and dreadfully narrated"
I actually thought that this could be a "sexy" read..wrong! The narrator is "lolly pink schoolgirl" and totally annoying. Oh shucks did I say that (american drawl). The plot is so full of holes in the end I just wanted one to swallow me up. Sure, I persevered. I wanted to ge to the sex part like everyone else...including the characters. What an anticlimax!! Honestly, the media hype surrounding this book deserves a gold star for sensationalist crap.
"Awful book made even worse by the narrator's voice"
"Oh my!", thinking about writing this review, my eyes widened and I bit my lip, with my trousers hanging of my hips in 'that' why. It's so HOT!
*rolls eyes*
Except nothing about this book is hot at all. there are sex scenes, but I wouldn't call them erotic in the slightest.
If you haven't bought this yet, DON'T!! if you HAVE to read it, borrow it off of someone as it is a huge waste of money.
And definitely do not be tempted to buy this as an audiobook. The narrator's voice is TERRIBLE. If you have already bought it, try putting it on x1.5 speed to make it in any way bearable.
"Apalling"
Admittedly, as a gay man I am not the target audience, but I couldn't help but be intrigued to find out what all the hype was about, hoping for at least some entertaining reading.
But this book exceeded my worst fears, the writing is so terrible that I gave up after 4 hours (which felt like years) and before the first sex scene. I have no idea what anybody would find interesting about these two shallow and deeply unlikable characters. Here is hoping that the last book ends with the mutual suicide, but I won't find out.
"Disappointing after the hype"
A friend read this in paperback and raved about it, saying she loved the characters and plot. Unable to find a copy locally, I downloaded it expecting great things. Oh dear, after 5 chapters of listening to the clueless recounting of an immature, clumsy, boring undergraduate, delivered in a nasal American drawl, I gave up! The female protagonist is supposedly reading English Lit, but she has learned nothing about the world. To say she's naive is too flattering - she is dense, falls over her own feet but, of course, is stunningly beautiful, yet unaware of her charms. That the mysterious Mr Grey is going to initiate her into the world of S & M is apparent within the first few chapters but by Chapter 5 I couldn't care less.
I can only suppose that this is the type of book that's best read not listened to.
"Should have the tittle, Filthy Shades Of Grey!"
I am no prude, but the book was a porno in audio! Such graphic detail constantly all the way through was way over the top. Makes me wonder about the author. The voice was awful and droned on and on and the ending was rubbish. Sorry have been a member for many years, and don't often comment. Don't waste a credit!!!
"no no no"
This book sounds great but the narrators voice is terrible, really irratating, which you wouldnt pick up on from the sample but as she has to repeat the same awful 'Oh My's' and 'Holy Sxxt's on average every couple of minutes it really goes through you.
Very dissapointed with the end which completely left me feeling a bit ripped off for the credit i'd wasted. I suppose its so that you will feel compelled to buy the next book but honestly it wasnt good enough to waste more credits.
worst book ive listened to.
"ABSOLUTELY DIABOLICAL READ"
This must be the worst book I have ever read in my life. It has absolutely no storyline, no plot and just contains an oratory on sadomasochism. It was and is a complete waste of money/credit! I am totally disgusted and do not even wish to rate this book but it seems I must complete the 'rate this title' section to submit my review and, therefore, I will give 1 star, although I would not recommend anyone to purchase this book, even those who are into S&M as the content is diabolical and repetitive.
"Truly Awful"
What a waste of a credit. Thank goodness I did not pay good money for the book itself.
All the hype surrounding this book is just that - hype, or mega-hype, with no basis in reality.
Erotica??? What erotica??? It is nonsense.
The narrator gets on your nerves. Even without the narrator, the book is truly awful. I won't bother to finish the book, never mind listen to, or read, the others in the series
"Fifty shades of Grey"
Blooming awful! The narrators voice just drones on & on! Don't waste your money or time on this trash!
"Too awful for words."
This book is complete and utter crap. Please do not waste your time or money, there is literature out there.
