What the Critics Say

"Gaiman has a deft touch for surprise and inventiveness, and there are inspired moments." (Publishers Weekly)
"Gaiman again proves himself a perverse romantic, heir not only to Poe and Baudelaire but to the breathless Pre-Raphaelites....The collection also boasts lush prose...and a winning faith in the enchantment of stories. Expect the unexpected. Then savor the luscious chills." (Kirkus)

    "Absolutely wonderful"

Neil Gaiman is an amazing author, and these short stories show the vast versatility of his writing. Stories of the supernatural, the weird and the wicked, I defy anyone to not enjoy this collection. For similar entertainment, check out Joe Hill's '20th Century Ghosts'.

"For those who wish for twists and turns"

I have loved Neil's work for many many years and this doesn't disappoint. Strange tales some unknown and some that ring bells but have unexpected endings.

This is short stories for grown ups. Smart intelligent some time funny often strange but always good.

Word of warning if you are listing to this rather than reading it I would suggest NOT falling asleep whilst you listen as you end up with some very strange dreams!

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

    "not a good book"

I have listened to Stardust and Anansi boys and am reading American Gods. I enjoyed/am enjoying those but this book is frankly boring.
I have found when each story ends that I am thinking "is that it?" and " what on earth was that all about"?
I suspect it has something to do with the way that Gaiman narrates as I enjoyed Anansi boys which was narrated by Lenny Henry. Anyway I cannot recommend this it is self indulgent and there wasn't one story I enjoyed.
