A public plaza in Indiana. Five people are killed in cold blood, shot through the head. But he leaves a perfect trail of evidence behind him, and soon the local police chief tracks him down. After his arrest, the shooter's only words are, 'Get Jack Reacher for me.' What could possibly connect this psychopath and the wandering dropout ex-army cop?
Critics call Lee Child's thriller series 'addictive', so here is our annual, much-longed for, Reacher fix.

"Great escapist story telling"
Lee Child's "Jack Reacher"action thrillers tend to be somewhat formulaic, but never fail to be gripping and entertaining. Fans of the series will not be disappoined with this story. New readers can jump into the series at any point since back story is not too important.
Jeff Harding is an excellent reader, although his attempts at a Russian accent in parts of this book are a little odd!
"Very well read Reacher book"
I see that one reviewer does not like the Lee Child/Reacher style of speech or writing. It's a question of taste; I think it underlines Reacher's detached emotional position very well. The plots are economical in that every observation of Reacher's comes in useful for the plot at some stage. Of course, there are many common elements between the books. They are hardly great literature but IMO they work very well. It is astonishing that Lee Child is English.
I am very fussy about my narrators and think Jeff Harding is very good. All the characters have their own voices, women as well as men. Everything about the delivery suits the story. It's a really professional performance. I think reading audiobooks sorts out the real actors from the rest.
"Absolutely brilliant - Classic Reacher"
This was the first Jack Reacher novel I heard and I have now listened again and it's just as good. The plot is as enthralling as all Lee Childs work. Reacher is only after one thing the truth! even if he cant stand the guy he's helping the truth is more important. You will be kept guessing right to the end but with Lee Child that is never frustrating just enthralling.
If you are a Jack Reacher fan you will love it. If you haven't heard a Jack Reacher story yet this is a great introduction, you will definitely download another!
"One Shot is a great addiion to the 'Reacher' story"
I must declare right up front that I am an avid Lee Childs fan.
I felt that this story was one of the best since the very early ones with more twists than usual.
It's a shame that Tom Cruise, an actor who I normally enjoy, elected to play Reacher (a role that he is physically unsuited to in the extreme) in the film version of this story.
The fact that the film was a dog should not put anyone off listening to this Audible version of what is really a very different story.
Jeff Harding's narration added greatly to my enjoyment - a real five star listen.
"The worst audiobook I have ever listened to!"
I downloaded this title after reading an article about Lee Child and his Jack Reecher character being made into a film. I have now listened to 90% of this story and it has been a struggle to get that far.
The story is unbelievably slow and the characters 2 dimensional and shallow. How these novels became popular is beyond me! One of the worst things the author does is use nothing to pad his pages.. how many times something in this book is described as " Neither slow or fast" is staggering! Or the amount of times someone responds by "Saying nothing" in response to a question, again is more often than not.
These are books I will be avoiding
