Publisher's Summary

It's 3 a.m. and Elizabeth Gilbert is sobbing on the bathroom floor. She's in her 30s, she has a husband, a house, they're trying for a baby - and she doesn't want any of it.

A bitter divorce and a turbulent love affair later, she emerges battered and bewildered and realises it is time to pursue her own journey in search of three things she has been missing: pleasure, devotion and balance.

So she travels to Rome, where she learns Italian from handsome, brown-eyed identical twins and gains 25 pounds; to an ashram in India, where she finds that enlightenment entails getting up in the middle of the night to scrub the temple floor; and to Bali where a toothless medicine man of indeterminate age offers her a new path to peace: simply sit still and smile. And slowly, happiness begins to creep up on her.

What the Critics Say

"As Gilbert switches from gelato to kundalini Shakti to herbal cures Balinese-style, she ponders the many paths to divinity, the true nature of happiness, and the boon of good-hearted, sexy love. Gilbert's sensuous and audacious spiritual odyssey is as deeply pleasurable as it is enlightening." (Booklist)

"The journey you want to take ......"

If you ever get that feeling that the life that you are living is not right and something is missing but it feels like it's only you ....... then this book is for you! The idea that if we have everything a partner, the latest gadgets and a good job then we will be happy is the beginning of this wonderful journey. I wasn't overly keen on the religious sections but felt that it did offer an important part of the journey. A travelogue/memoir that is well written both amusing and sad and incredibly positive. This audiobook is very well read by the author and you feel the emotions of the events as though you are there with her sat next to her. A must if you feel the need for breath of fresh air but I should warn you to find your suitcase and prepare yourself for the wanderlust ...

excellant real life story. had this book for my book group choice and we all enjoyed it, some who read it did not appriciate the humor in the same way as i did in being able to listen to elizabeth gilbert read her own book. learnt some new wisdom and enjoyed the feel good factor. so much so that i bought her next book committed staight afterwards to find out what happened next. also very good, all about marriage and its history.

"Little long but loved the narration"

This book grew on me and I ended up really enjoying it, but, with hindsight, I wish I'd gone for the abridged version. Elizabeth Gilbert is a great narrator, I really enjoyed her voice and hearing her tell her story.

    "Eat Pray Love"

As there's a film version of this book coming out soon, I thought I should listen to the book first. I don't usually listen to books that have a philosophical message etc, so this wasn't my usual cup of tea. I did enjoy it though. I liked the way the story was structured and how you feel as if you are going along on a journey of self-discovery with her. The fact that it was narrated by the author herself was a big bonus as you could really feel that these were her words. Let's see if Julia Roberts does justice to Liz's story...

    "Very thought provoking"

This book came highly recommended to me and I am so glad I choose the audio version over an ebook or paper book. To hear the author herself read the book adds so much to the enjoyment and understanding. I know i will come back to this book again.

    "EAT, PRAY, LOVE"

Got this book because it was assigned by my book club, was geared up to hate it. I was very pleasantly surprised. The authors narration gives it the extra personal perspective and this is a book that I will revisit. Everyone at the book club gave it rave reviews and I've bought it for friends for birthdays etc.

"Divorce Therapy Alert! (though Nicely Written)"

Worth listening to not so much for the content, but for the way it's written and for the way it's read. If it weren't so nicely written and read, I think I would have given up quite early on. Although I'm glad I persevered as Eat, Pray, Love was interesting in places and I particularly liked learning about the Italian language. I expected the spiritual side of the book to have more depth to it though. For the most part I think Elizabeth Gilbert was using this book as therapy to help get her over her painful divorce, hence the Divorce Therapy Alert!

    "Wonderful"

This was the first book I downloaded with Audible, and I found it to be the perfect tone for audio book transposition. An easy and though provoking listen.

    "touch of tranquility"

Well what can I say, this was beautifully narrated and inked to the highest of standard. It was a bit of a race as I wanted to listen to the book before I saw it on the big screen at the cinema, which I was able to do. The film was pretty damn close to the book it was as if the the writer directed the film.
The casting of the film married well with the script.
I really enjoyed this book and I would highly recommend it.
