If you're wondering what Chris Stewart did before he and his girlfriend Ana moved to El Valero their Spanish farm here's one of the answers. He took to the sea, landing a job as skipper sailing a Cornish Crabber around the Greek islands. It was his dream job but there was just one tiny problem. He hadn't ever sailed before and didn't have a clue how to start.
In a series of madcap adventures we follow Chris from a shaky start in Chichester harbour to his epic Odyssey to Spetses (a bucket would have been handy), and on to the journey of a lifetime - battening down the hatches on a trip across the Atlantic.
It's a journey crackling with Chris's zest for life, irresistible humour, and unerring lack of foresight. Dry land never looked more welcoming.

"Brilliant"
For anyone who has come to sailing (and especially cruising) later in life, and loves it (as the author clearly does, and as I do) this book will strike some wonderful resonant chords across the whole emotional range.
All in all, well-written, evocative book that will appeal to those who sail but should also interest and amuse those who don't.
I specially recommend the bit about the first sailing 'lesson' and the bit about what is involved in 'relieving' oneself over the side of a boat in cold weather on a rough sea. I laughed so much I couldn't breathe!
"Laugh out loud funny"
This book is a tale of a young man realising that there was more to life than looking after sheep. He sets out learning how to Sail and is then asked to go on a perilous journey to the North. It is particularly funny if you have a vague knowledge of boats and sailing. We listened to this book on a long car journey, it was the perfect companion. Brilliantly written and read by Chris Stewart who is both funny and self effacing. Chris has written several other books that I would recommend to anyone who has a love of travel and likes a good rollocking tale. Among his others particularly, 'Driving Over Lemons' .
